Thanks to a friend of mine, who is a member of this community, I decided to join. I am a kind of Medieval painter who discovered computers some two years ago and who got fascinated by 3D because of its sculpting possibilities. Being on a budget, I chose for C4DArt7, but I do intend to upgrade to 8, most probably basic (with the Advanced renderer) within the early bird period.
It was difficult for me to find a door that led into Cinema's labyrinth, but I did find my own way to learn and play, and that's what I do right now. The tuts in the book are ok, but I do need an overview before I can dive in. I can't fill in values without having an idea of what and why. Therefore I started with primitives and deformers, trying out all possible settings. Etc etc.
Hypernurbs are fascinating, but I feel very attracted to real construction modelling too.
Yet one of the most fascinating things, as far as I'm concerned, is, or: are, Bhodinut SLA. They are what Kai's Powertools are to Photoshop.
I do hope to become an active member of this community, but at first my main activity will be asking questions.

Erik, if modelling is what you're doing: I swear there is no better way to learn it in Cinema than with Bunk's Meissie tutorial over at maxon.net

It's not easy, but it will give you the best overall knowledge of C4D's base toolsets.

It's under project based tutorials.
