View Full Version : Does Maya work with Dual Monitors or Not?...how's that for assertiveness?
NoSeRider 08-28-2004, 11:26 AM I've been reading all these threads and they seem discouraging. Nothing conclusive other then I can't make it work.
I have ATI 9500 mod to 9700 omega drivers.
I can open Maya with latest omega drivers, but can't extend the work area of Maya to 2nd monitor. Only fills primary monitor or secondary monitor, but not both at sametime.
Is there a preferences setting or something that can fix this?

tear off viewports and drag over, bare in mind the contextual menus sometimes dont work on the second monitor. I am speaking from a ATI 9700pro experiance. I am currently looking at the render view on my second monitor, thats how i work

...the only catch is you need a qualified card that does opengl overlays in both monitors, like a quadro (maybe a firegl or wildcat too?)
ant: whattup! ;p
hmm yeah, hows that for assertiveness? hey morphball.
Showing off those fancy big lcd's
For those of us who dont have two matching 20 inch monitors, you can tare off viewports.

OK, since it's been established I have a crappy Video Card....how do you tear off view ports and put them on other monitor?
Hey, I'm taking an intro class.....I don't know what I'm doing.
get the view you want, and go to panels/tear off or tear off copy. You should be able to just drag the floating window over now.

Works fine on a normal consumercard here (Gforce FX5600).

Tearing off viewports may work. Menus altough are pain in the ass. I see morphball is running his screenz at 1600x1200 if I am not mistaken, thats not an option with ati cards neither, even with professional cards, cuz their ogl is limited to 2560x2560. A while ago I ended up selling my ati radeon...it was just too much trouble. And I will reccomend the same to everyone who is serious about maya.

wildcat blows.. getting a fx4000 instead. 3DLabs has gone down hill over the past 4 years.

It will not work the way you want on an ati card...even if you CAN get the other monitor to display menus and sutch ...any interactivity will not be visable..(if you right click on something) it will either not show up, or display on the first monitor....this is a big time issue with ATI+Maya...

yes on all accounts. i would really think about if you're gonna be gaming more or doing 3d more, cause to get the best performance you'll need a card on alias' qualified list (http://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qualified_hardware/QUAL/maya_60_win.html). (note that older quadro4's are still qualified for maya, and cost less than most modern gaming cards)

Yep, I have the same issues. I usually set my render window onto the second monitor and UV window etc., but no right click menus (though they will show all the way to the right on the first monitor).

It isn't only Ati related, now that you mention it, this problem also occurs with my nvidia gforcefx.

What problem?
If you mean that menus are appearing in wrong place then you have not yet enabled ogl on both screens. Make sure you got dualview mode enabled under driver settings.

Second that ....it simply DOES NOT WORK ON ATI CARDS....Fire Gl? dont know...never had one ...on a Gforce, if it does not work, it's a setup issue...

Whatever you do, do not waste your money on a FireGL. ATI + Maya = always a problem with something. Back when the FireGL X2 256 was the top of the line workstation card that ATI offered, I made the horrible mistake of buying one. Three weeks on the phone with their technical support and the problem was never resolved. I'll never buy another ATI card again after that hoopla. I purchased a Quadro FX 3000 and haven't had a single hitch with anything, running smoothly and beautifully since the day I installed it.

I have just started working with Maya on my new machine. I have a Quadro FX 1300 card and so far so good.
