View Full Version : Floor collison, is there a good way?
Ok so i might miss something obvious here. But everytime im animating a charcter walking or falling or whatever, i find im spending most of my time making sure his feet/arms/tentacles/whatever arent pushing through the floor.

Isnt there any smart/fast way of doing this in max4?
im using character Studio, but i cant seem to find any tools there.
Please help

On every key where the foot is supposed to rest on the ground, select the foot and change the IK Blend number to 1 and the type to Object. On keys where the feet are in the air, change the number to 0 and the type to Body. These are found in the Key Info rollout of the motion panel.
Or if you're using Max 4 hit the Set Planted Key button when the foot is on the ground and Set Free Key when it's in the air. Use the Set Sliding Key when it's going from planted to free.
ok great thanks, i dont get it just yet, but at least i know what to look for :-)

Learning the whole muck up of the ik blend in character studio may take a few days/weeks but certainly it your mind click at some point and you will have a full understanding.
IK blend = 1 means your using IK
IK blend = 0 means your using FK...
you set this value for every keyframe if nescary.. when it set to one.. the limb will do everything it its power to stay situated where it is... when its set to 0.. it will move with the rest of the body.
This is just an over simplification but im just trying to get ya in the mind set... doing the character studio tutorials over a few times will certainly get ya an understanding even if you have no clue what you are doing... just keep doing them and reading the instructions. Observation of what is going on is the key when you need to figure out stuff :)
sorry if this post made no sense.. im just writing what comes into my mind :)
Thanks guys!
I finally understood it. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
its such a difference. I compeleted in a few hours what had already taken me a day before i knew.
million thanks.
And ouch.
There is SO much left to learn.
(like animating characters youŽd really believe in )
