YEEEE-HAAAAW! Pit's back in the challenge!:D
How can your girlfriend deny you this challenge! Can she not see the art and passion involved?
I'm intrigued already Pit. As stated by Kusco "Bring it on!"

Hehe.. I have the same dilemma with mine, Ive decided to join in though this round and include a character of her as the pilot, so she cant get to mad I figure when I tell her Im busy modeling her! :D
@ prayas: Hi, sort of lost contact with your beast of burden allthough i was really impressed by it - sorry bout that, i will find it it and enjoy the result! No- sorry - itīs not a helicopter, no loads, no teddy! Be patient!
@ Elf: well - as stated above: no copter - something entirely different, (but i have to be careful not to evoke to great expectations) - glad you liked the teddy - guess u have to be into soccer to enjoy the joke! Btw.: Ronaldo is without a doubt the best overall player in the world:love:
@ erilaz: couldnīt leave u alone out there! No - just joking -have become addicted to your critique, comments and funny remarks, so iīm here for more!! And, well - my girlfriend is sort of artblind
@ Rhid1en: Now thatīs a neat trick!!! Iīll try that out! Thanks for sharing!
nice star pit ,hurry to see what you will do with this ,one thing sure ,its would be excellent ........

He is not gonna tell us anything about this?
Hmmm. COME ON PLZ.
Like to know it. Look really like helicopter or something familiar.
P..:
@ Gabe: Thanks!! Thatīs very kind of you
@ ZrO-1 and Prayas: Thanks for the replies and sorry for not telling anything - bad idea!!
Ok - update: This will be the engine of my vehicle - 4 mechanical carrierbirds.
And yes iīm aware that it looks awful symmetrical - it will change over time!
erilaz
08-07-2002, 11:47 AM
Yay! More updates!:D
This looks like it will but up with your usual wackiness.
Um... one crit though. Those mech birds... are they everyday household things? Are you going to mess them up a bit? ( i know you said the are symmetrical, but they look a little too good to be "homemade").
Just asking!
Iīll screw īem up - donīt worry. Thanks for the concern!
prayas
08-07-2002, 12:13 PM
strange idea but anyway cool! How are they powered?
Jetengines in the back?
P..:
@ Prayas: Electricity - lightnings will strike them every now and then -> and supply them with energy!
Is strange and cool opposed? When is an idea, thought, passion, attitude or art strange? - or normal for that matter? This is no attack at all- i just wonder about the sentence!!
erilaz
08-07-2002, 12:33 PM
Strange is always cool! Unless it's creepy strange, like people on the tram who stare at your knees intently for the whole trip.:surprised
Strange is a great word, because it's multifaceted! You can be strange, and everyone likes it, or you can be strange and everyone edges away slowly.
Moot point really! :D
@ erilaz: LOL - i love ur answers! Thanks!

pit is at it again, right on..be interesting to see it take shape..the suspense will be killing me :)
Birds may be a little manufactured, but depending on the scale it looks like something you could get off a funky weathervane, or maybe a carnival or amusement park ride..
fine line between strange, eccentric, or utterly loony..well, around here anyway :)

You are keeping us on needles. I do wonder how it will work.
Thanks guys!!
@ Hypercube: Youīre right the birds head is from a merry-go-round
@ OZ: I send her on vacation!! Time to work!
@ Mikael P: Your question is about to be answered ;)
An carrierbird update -> will be driven by a gigantic rubberband engine. Wings and gimmicks will be added next!

style warrior. now i got it. there are 4 of them? Hmm?
what about the first image you posted?
Whats that thing in the middle?
P..:
Style Warrior?!!
Itīll all come together in due time. The "thing in the middle" are the rubberbands - the engine if you will!

Looking nice! What part of your construction do you wind up? Is it the inner blades of that propeller or?
prayas
08-09-2002, 01:27 PM
i had a wooden plane model working like this when i was about 10 or 12 years old. So i know how it works. But how will it be "recharged" don't know a word for it by now?
The "thing in the middle" i meant the thing in your first posted image?
P..:
@ Mikael P: Exactly! The 4 propellers are winded up by the rubberband - at the moment i`m trying to work out a solution, that will make it possible to wind up the rubberbands when sitting on the seat. Thanks fo replying!

hey very original pit, good to know se germans are at it again :buttrock: :buttrock:
just one thing to "crit" right now: don't overdo the textures, remember that it has to look good untextures (i love the textures right now, but you'll have to kill them for the final piece)
well shouldn't be much of a problem because you don't have too much contrast in 'em...basic shaders + bump should sure do
@ Prayas:OH - u posted while i was writing a reply for mikael
1. Iīm working on that right now
2. OK! Now i get it! That thing will carry a platform or a basket or the Titanic - ;) Have not decided yet.
@ Fist: Thanks - iīll have to dissapoint u though iīm Danish - just happen to live, work etc. in Berlin right now. For the textures- i know, but i wanted some colors in this months challenge! Spend last month without texturing so i needed to paint a little!

08-09-2002, 01:51 PM
ehe alright, so how do you like berlin and where do you work there ? cg business ?
hope i'm not asking too much or leading away from the topic or anything ;)
no, not at all, but i guess that it would be more appropriate as a private message.
it looks nice pit - yes make some colors my eyes love colors :)

ofcourse, the rubber-bands are attached to the rotors ;). I was more thinking of how you actually did wind up the rubber-band. The same thing you are contemplating.
derwolpertinger
08-09-2002, 03:42 PM
damn you make me go crazy, just tell me how it works!:p btw., fine modelling there. just the textures look a bit off right now but i sure think that they are temporary-aren't they?
@ derwolpertinger:Off - hmmm - I think that is a matter of personal taste and the WIP state the model/ texturing is in - and sure the final will be flat shaded.
this is really nice ........ go go update ..:bounce:
hypercube
08-09-2002, 05:45 PM
Very very cool..style ninja ;) Love it, more more..
Hm..maybe for the rubber band winding, some kind of pedal arrangement? With a ratcheting gear..not sure of the mechanics of it, but once it unwound, you could pedal like mad to rewind it quickly, etc. or maybe just a big hand crank.
Anyway, go man go :buttrock:
@Gabe and Hypercube: Thank you!! :) I really appreciate it ! Makes me want to work more!
I thought of a pedal system too for the winding, but then what happens when it unwinds? The poor guy flying that thing would end up with no feet -> if heīs to slow! So the ratcheting gear idea is pretty cool and would prevent the feetloss!! Nifty!- A hand crank is another possibility - it has to be reached from a seated position though ..... hmmm.... well, thereīs always a solution! Thank you for the suggestions!!!
Haaaaa splendid! My eyes blinking of joy!! .....This vehicle is simply splendid! Is Clear and detailed and original too......mmmmmh makes me remind some sort of tin toy!really, really good job.....:applause:

08-11-2002, 11:19 AM
So nice and simple. I really like it.
Maybe you should make those straps hanging from the handles a slight bit larger.
Thank you so much !!
@ Mikael P: Iīll try that - i think youīre right, they disappear a little as is.
A quick doodle of the guy flying this thing - i guess iīll go for a sort of apocalyptic rider dude.

08-11-2002, 11:51 AM
Some sort of post-apocalyptic priest? :p
Very cool. I love all the different drawings! Top left hand corner one looks the best (in my opinion!).:D

I hadn't seen that vehicle until now! really good concept and well executed modeling!
and that "Pilot" can be really cool if executed right! I will keep an eye on you and see how you're doing, maybe crit a little later ;)
work work, work work work :wip:
Hi Fellah - funny! u posted while i was writing in your thread! Iīd love to have your eye in my thread :surprised
Started modelling the mad priest - (yeah, meanwhile he has become mad) - still working on the details of the story behind it all.
Ha!Very nice! I like it!did u texture him too!I hope so;) :wavey:

cool way to bring your sketch to 3D. Like his eyes that(how do you call it?) baggy? Thing my eyes look the same every morning.
Surface painter for the screws? Didn't do much with that 'cause had no time for trying but did it today. Damn coll plugin.
Needmoreupdate.
P..:
@ OZ: Thank you, Master of Concepts ;) - i will go for textures this month -> part of my private challenge !!
@ Prayas: Me too - had myself as reference!! No Surface Painter -> modelled and placed by hand ;)

woohoo great progress :D
i love the vehicle and the character, cool designs
just a thing about the guy: i think the area where the hole in the iris is supposed to be is extruded ? well it looks wrong...might be the lighting
*edit* mh sorry i didn't want to take your piece apart but i noticed some other things:
those skin "flaps" under the eyes look a bit too hard towards the nose, i think they should look more like they're hanging down, so they should get thicker towards the middle and almost invisible towards the sides
and the helmet: those bolts you got on there could use some kind of trim on the helmet, something on the helmet that makes it look like it was made to house these bolts
like this:
http://www.k-dump.net/files/cgtalk/pit_skin+helmet.jpg
@ Freemind77: Just saw your amazing model for the first time - love it!
@ Erilaz: Thanks my friend!!
@ Fist: The eyes are placeholders at the moment - a 1 minute thing - so they might be looking weird. They will be replaced eventually. Thanks for noticing all the same!
Oh - u updated while i was replying!
Youīre right with the "skinflaps" - will rework it! For the helmet - would be better!! The bolts would look a lot more integrated!! Thank you very much!!
freemind77
08-13-2002, 12:45 PM
Thanks pit , i love your pilot too  :bounce:
hi, thats great - i like the nose of the priest - give the crease some irregularitate it would look more believable
@ Ragnarok: Thank u !! (I forgot u on the top of the page - sorry!) Very cool modelling u have going!
@ Swag: Uīre right! - but iīll finish the model and then add detail, just didnīt want to show a totally even face - maybe a bump for skinpores etc. Thanks!!
Have had no time to model the last couple of days:annoyed: so itīs a minor update on the priest/pilot character - all done very fast so it needs a lot of tweaking and finetuning!! here goes..
MikaelPersson
08-21-2002, 03:47 PM
HAHA lol! Finally an honest priest.
As you said, more tweaking on the way. But I will try to comment what I see. The thing that struck me first was his lower legs. I think the thin legs should be translated downwards, they look to large right now. I like the size of his kneepads and the boots though.
Nice work.
freemind77
08-21-2002, 07:15 PM
hahahah funny priest , he looks like death already :) keep up:bounce: i am watching you :wip:
@ Mikael P: Iīll tie the boots up with a couple of straps - theyīll look smaller then. Thanks for the comments!
@ freemind77: Iīm watching u 2 !!!

and better!!!
So many cool things I could say about this scene, but the words get muffled behind my bulging eyes. :surprised
Exceptional work Pit.:D

08-22-2002, 07:04 AM
Hahah...that guy's got a chastity belt....that's great...:buttrock:
Umm, this is probably really minor...but would add a whole hell of a lot...for his pouch on his hip...i'm guessing that's going to be leather? well, some nice pinches and creases would nicely break up the blockiness it kinda takes on at this point. plus, the loop where the strap seems to be missing...did it tear off?
Later.

That's one good thing in the morning. Just got up and clicked this thread and f*** his character is cooler than mine.
Need to work on this. Would do some tweeking on the foot. but for the rest it's damn fine work.
"The flesh ....." cool idea.
P..:
@ Erilaz: LOL - thatīs to much - thanks!!!! You are for sure one of the kindest persons in here - i guess i should drink more tea, if thatīs the secret!
@blakboks: yeah - still needs a lot of tweaking and some tiny parts are missing. Will make some displacement- and bumpmaps later on to break up blockiness. Thanks!
@ Prayas: Hehheh - hope i didnīt ruin ur day!! No seriously now - thatīs a great compliment - thanks!! And yes there are several "trouble areas" that badly need attention, but it was thrown together really fast and sloppy - so itīll become better!
erilaz
08-26-2002, 12:36 PM
Pit, tea is ALWAYS the secret. I am drinking it right now! Oh, wait, it's all gone. I'd better get some more!!:D
And look! (I'm pointing at my screen, which you can't see) The default 3d max primitive is a teapot! My calling, really.
I'll let you get back to work now...:bounce:
