It is possible to bump map abdominals? I am asking this because if I texture my characters and I want to use bump mapping, i should be able to use the abdominals in my bump map...your thoughts please...

I think it would be better with normal mapping? Its just my opinion but im not sure since Ive never done it.

traditional heightfield bump maps are dead. Long live normal maps.

Yes, you can normal map abs. You can normal map anything.

definately go with the normal maps, much better look, bit more work but worth it

"without bump mapping, the cg world is doomed!"...did Zim really say that!?

Heightfield bump maps are not dead. We use them almost exclusively here. Normal maps alone won't let you use next-gen techniques like parallax mapping and real-time displacement mapping, these need height maps. Good height maps also can easily be converted to normal maps, for cards that don't support displacement. The trouble is in creating good heights, not an easy task. But IMO the results are worth it. Anyhow, totally depends on your game engine. Most do not support these techniques, yet. But they will as time goes on...
