View Full Version : Creating Realistic Smoking tyres
barpoet 08-27-2004, 01:08 AM Hey CGtalkers,
I have a project which requires adding a smoke effect to tyres, I have tried making clouds & editing them & also using a few filters but nothing so far gives a realistic look, all comments appreciated

Well, since all comments are accepted.
The best smoke effects I've encountered come from a 3D Studio Max plug-in called After Burner. You could make images using After Burner in Max them import them into Photoshop.
Otherwise you'll have to draw by hand or find some photo reference......I think.

I agree, a 3D solution will give you the best "swirlies."
But you could certainly paint it... lots of reference to be had.

Well since this is the Photoshop forum, I'm not going to answer with a 3D solution.
Try special brushes, look for example for the Nagel Series brushes #11 at http://www.digitalmediadesigner.com

Also, the paint daubs filter can be useful, but only if used on something that already looks like smoke, and blurred afterwards (that's what I do, anyway).

Photoshop wise i'd suggest just cropping a nice image of smoke, looking at it, and figuring out what shape your custom brush shape should have to give sa similar effect. Using layers there's no way you can't get the effect you want by hand
