I'm working on Kroot from Warhammer 40k to mod into Dawn of War but i thought it best to get some feedback before moving on to UV's etc. More background on Kroot can be found at http://www.gamesworkshop.com (http://www.gamesworkshop.com/)

I'm still tweaking it a little for shape, aim was for a poly count of 2000, weapon could have been include but i thought for the extra polys to treat it seperate. If it works out i'm looking at doing the Kroot Shaper, Kroot Hounds and Krootox.

I think if you're making a mod for dawn of war you'll need to lose some polys. The mesh could do with some cleaning too.

Yeah i'm cleaning up the mesh at the moment, but you'd be wrong about the poly counts for Dawn of War. The developers gave a range of 2000 for infantry, 3000 for vehicles.

2000 for infantry and 3000 for vehicles are the polycounts for the high-res characters, basically the characters as you would see them if your camera was upclose. The engine uses LOD scaling for characters, so I think you'd have to make a low poly version as well.

I would definately look at using an alphamap for the hair if possible, you said you were cleaining it up so I'll hold off on other comments until we see what your clean-up does for it.
