Don't be, if you drew like me then we'd negate eachother and the world would blow up...
I once read that in a fortune cookie.

Hah.
Pencils are good stuff, eh? I'm not very good at makin' pictures - but pencils are my favorite to play around with. Just somethin about telling a story with good 'ole black and white lines on paper. I'd be pleased if you would take a gander at my two pencil doodles:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/Andyman1655/Jen_and_Andy_drawing.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/Andyman1655/DeerMouse_AcademicDay.jpg
(sorry for the poor scan quality). You may say they're not bad, but considering they took me forever to draw - I'd say I need to practice more.
[i]Anyway... I need to get to work on this sketch topic, heh.
Taron333 - Getting a Dali-feeling from this
J_Grieve - They hand out those ear protectors at the hospital after the baby is born, right?
MustardWash - Cool looking sky. (about mine: Even darker perhaps?)
Velk - Thats accually the first comicstrip I've seen on the daily sketch. Cool!
Supervlieg - Going for darkness to, huh? It looks like he changed his mind
Drumwhore - You never have a bad paintday, do you? Great work.
johweedee - Love it!
Cyanid - Love the colors
Downwrdspiral - Guess they grew tierd of all those gilligan island reruns emitting from Earth.
Gimmix - Welcome to the daily sketch. Doesn't look like the guy one should tape up.
csmallfield - That's just to cool!
DreamMaster - Very emotional. Good work.
Rasdasa - hehehe. Morbid.
thebigxer - cool concept
3db2 - Love the colors in this.
digital_bobert - I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised...
If I missed someone, I'm truly sorry.

holy sh*t 3db2!
I'm starting sketching right now :)
[edit] finished sketch, got some spare time left for crits:
Zem: I don't think it's too dark, it reminds me of "blair witch project" which is an excellent thing :) your picture got the same mood
taron333: your sketches are very neat. This one works very good, the vague background is what finishes this picture
J_Grieve: You could've given the girls real arrows... ;)
MustardWash: One tree to the left handles gravity quite strange, other than that: great contrasting
Velk: I know where you're coming from ;) how I hate those animals
Supervlieg: His expression is just great, but I think the hand with the gun is a lil large and high to be normal. The blood is just great :)
Drumwhore: haha! He's cool. can he also eat airplanes? Coz that's what's bothering me right now :(
johweedee: heh. sick. can't say I'm a very big fan of the style, I have to admit. I like the concept tho
Cyanid: nice, tho the texture doesn't fit which makes it sort of messy, which is probably ok :)
downwrdspiral:for a piece with a trackball this is quite nice, I found that very difficult
gimmix: welcome mate! Believe it or not, we treated a guy like that last week :)
csmallfield: cool perspective
DreamMaster: the expression on here face is cool, as is the concept
ravdava: auw-shit indeed!
thebigxer: weird style, cool
3db2: well.. Can't say more. My personal favourite this round
digitalbobert: heh.. I was never able to do good caricature, this one's great
mdme_sadie: great style you have

Andyman,
Those are very well rendered.
I know your pain with a scanner, mine is weak too. but nonethelss your shit is definitely better then you first made it out to be. *sigh* I've fallen for the devils trick of modesty yet again ;P
The marsupial is bloody cute, and even if it took you forever to sketch, atleast you've got the skills to get it down on paper. It's hard o critique it, everything is well placed, and the scan isn't really a good enough quality for the first one to observe the shadows well. On the other hand, the little rodents fur is very well rendered.

I am a very big admirer or ryan church, and this piece shows some influence from him. I tried to make the crack dynamic to make it look like this just happened, but that sort of failed. Hope you like it

Bulls-eye. However, I figured that out after I had painted him. He was suposed to be some muscular man standing in the shade with a hard light at his side, but... yes. He looks like Wolverine. And this guy can "silence" anyone.

EDIT: this took me maybe 40 to 60 minutes all together (including scanning etc etc)
also, I did this with pencil at first then scanned it into my comp then used photoshop to paint it.. its not great or anything but I think it turned out alright... and as you probably noticed im using a mouse :p

Dunno if im too late, but i thought id give it a go. My painting skills are hella naff, and im trying to develop them. And what better than these daily sketches.
Ho hum. It started off as a cartoony, simple caricature, and now it looks like a serial killers insane daubings!
1 hour and a half - photoshop & wacom.
The idea is not the silence of shock, but the silence a zombie finds himself in after losing his jaw......

If anyone has anything to say, itd probably help me - its my first attempt at painting for years

Hi Andy. It's never too late. Your painting is very nice, but I have some suggestions. Shadows are bit too hard (gosh... look at mine doodling few posts up) and the shading could use more detail. I had a little problem with defining where the eyes are, they seemed a bit odd. I know that they need to be like this, but the hard shadow by the nose and eyebrows makes it unclear.
Great work, as always, Andy.
Damn, I need a wacom. This mouse makes me crazy. Anyone wants to make a donation? ;)
... Anyone??? ...
Cheers
AndyH
09-01-2004, 07:00 AM
Yeah, as i said though, it started off as a BW inky kinda thing that looked a bit pop-arty and cartoony. I decided to put shading on it and as i added the detail, it made the lines look odd. Its a nasty mish mash of cartoony and prison inmate style art :scream:
