View Full Version : Urgent Particle Rendering Question

Hi,

Is there any way to render particles from the command line with the dynamic particle oversampling higher than 1 (ie. 5) WITHOUT caching??

Is there a rendering flag that I missed maybe?

I can't cache the particles because there are so many that with an oversampling of 5 (which is what I need to get desired results) the cache size for each scene is over 4gb. There are too many shots to cache each scene practically.

Thanks for any help in advance.

If you have that many particles, is there any way to simplify the problem .. say, through the use of compositing? For instance, what if you rendered a film-strip with one-fourth that many particles, and then composited it on top of itself four times, slightly offset in time? That workflow-change alone might bring the problem back into the realm of manageability; compositing's cheap compared to rendering, especially with swarms of particles. Just a thought...

Thank you for the reply but it won't work in this case.
I need the dynamics animation itself to oversample 5 times per frame. The problem isn't the amount of particles. If I cache them with oversampling of 5, it has to create 5 times the amount and size of disk cache files, therefore resulting in huge file sizes that aren't practical for our server.
Cheers anyway,
