View Full Version : Character model: Armoured Guard
Psionic Design 08-25-2004, 05:36 PM This is a model I started this morning, its taken about 5-6 hours to get to this point...Still lots to do on the skin, just laying in the basic black lines and defining stuff at the moment etc...
it'll also have several interchangeable heads

Me personally, I am a huge fan of your work and everything, and I love this one. Do you remember Fulgore from Killer Instinct?
This model reminds me of him... How about some wireframes...?

looking pretty good so far. I think the weakest thing about it is the feet, they dont really fit the character right now. theres no shape to it really, But it is a wip.
good luck

Yeah I'm "still" not sure about the feet myself ;)

whoa, extremely nice work! i love the definition you gave the metal in your update, like making it look square on the shins and such, beautiful.
btw, i was just looking at your site, and i saw the pistol in your gallery, i realized i had downloaded a gun 4 pack from turbosquid of your models, including that gun, i used it in a morrowind mod i made for myself, small world, haha.

Very nice!
First games model ive seen in C4D!
I like the chunky robust look of the suit - no stylised nonesense or impractical armour here!
The only crit is that i aint too keen on the ribbed effect on the upper thigh. The lines look a bit shaky, and it doesnt seem to fit in with the 'solid armour components' look.
I like the red parts around the arms - the whole thing sorta reminds me of a more heavy duty version of the deepeye suits from FF: spirits within.
Is he gonna have any more head protection? it seems kinda wierd to have all that armour and a bare head sticking out the top.
Do you have a wireframe shot? he seems awful damn good for 1600 polys - is that triangles or quads?

My only crit is his name on the back. We come up with something more original then Kage. Sounds too hollywood action guy.
How about Bynum, Evans, Boyd, or Gruber ect.
But in all seriousness, excellent model, and the textures are very sweet.

"KAGE" was a crazy assed murderer-convict-on death row-solitary confinement type of guy re-instated as a soldier in a WH40K novel I once read and ended up being quite a hero in his own murderous way ;-) hollywood-ish or not it has meaning to me...'onest
Damn, that sounds like something from tomb raider 2/riddick/etc ;)
Okay, his name will be...

looking awesome! the blue and yellow armour seems a little candy though. it makes the group seem like a new apple product (i-toughguy) or something. maybe you could make the yellow guy a little more "industrial hazard" orange or something. and the other guys just look a little embarassed by their power ranger cousins... seriously though, the modelling and texturing are amazing man. keep it coming.

I like your texture work very much! Have you used BodyPaint or Photoshop (or something else)?
I think the feet needs to be a bit less sneaker-looking. Perhaps a bit more square and not have those lace looking vents on top (i guess they are foot-sweat outlets?) :)

Really, amazing work man! I really like this armour, I think you've managed to make a fairly convincing armour while not treading on 40k's toes. Something that can be hard to do when making power armour is to make it your own and not too much like an earlier design, I think you've managed to make one thats yours!! (if that makes sense!!:curious:) Anyone way, great concept, great model, great texture!! I have to say I like the earlier head, with just the mask and ear bits as opposed to the goggles version. I also prefer the red version of the colour scheme, but thats why you offer choices in games isn't it!!! Oh, any chance of seeing a texture flat?
superb work, love the textures, and the mesh structure:D
could you show your texture map here?
i think i could learn a LOT from just looking at you texture map:drool:
thx

Nice work. Only thing I can see is some of the armor could use some color variation. Not so much darker or lighter, but hints of other colors in them. Mainly the yellow and the blue one stick out the most to me. Overall cool character. Good job.

amazing work here ...
when u make the maps for the different colors ...do u just put on a color overlay or do u work a little more on it...how do u do it?
i think the yello and blue ones really contrast with the rest of ur characters because the colors just kill the worn out metal look ....you should consider an different way of doing them ....
and the lense on the psionic head thing isnt very realistic....it needs more work...id play around with scan lines ....
so when does animation start :P ...and hat is this for btw.
