alright, just got a few sketches so far. i will be making it look more "homemade" i.e. bent pipes, skewed alignment as i go along.....

Mattman
08-08-2002, 03:43 PM
sketch #2

Mattman

i'm doing this WIP vehicle to go with a character i probably won't be doing this month, just some good ol' post-apocalyptic fun. Mad Max-ish...

oh yeah, expect a lot of detail in the vehicle (more than my drawing), like you might see in this character...

freemind77: the app he's using is wings 3D (see http://www.wings3d.com/ ), an open source, free 3D modeler. Didn't had much time to play around with it, but it seems to have some powerful and helpful tools to model in low poly.

Mattman
08-19-2002, 04:55 PM
this is what i've been working on....been kinda slow....

yeah wings is kool :)

Mattman
08-20-2002, 10:41 PM
i'll be the first to admit that there are problems with the design, and i haven't done any tweaking to make it look more homemade (dents, bent parts of the frame) and there will be more detail in adding tied bands, nuts and bolts, etc.....

but here it is so far!

:buttrock:

erilaz
08-20-2002, 11:24 PM
How many polys are in that green thing??

Might be just the way the image came out, but that looks pretty dense!

Mattman
08-20-2002, 11:38 PM
not a ton, just a duplicated ridge

i figure might as well put the detail in! :)

I must have missed something... the post is on a different page now!:surprised

But nevermind! Hey, great stuff! Beautiful work on that engine.

Mattman your model is coming along very smoothly! That engine is really lookin great. can't wait to see it all put together!

Mattman
08-21-2002, 11:14 PM
if you're wondering where the engine is, it's hidden while i work for now...but not much longer.

just thought i'd post what i've got so far (minus the engine of course!)

crits pleez!!!

:D

this is the console. i have no reference cuz i'm too lazy to look it up, but i've modeled aircraft before and thought this might be believable enuf. remember, this is a post-apocalyptic contraption built from found parts from various junked aircraft.......

08-22-2002, 04:00 AM
This is looking really cool, I can't wait to see it finished

Mattman
08-23-2002, 10:24 PM

Mattman
08-23-2002, 10:26 PM

prayas
08-24-2002, 12:11 PM
that is f***ing cool. you're modeling every small detail as it is to be seen. Like to check out wings3D just for fun. will you build the pilot or not? Like to see him in there.

hehe i love it, the last one looks great already, and yeah i think it looks very homemade, well-crafted but homemade

just go on like that

Mattman
08-25-2002, 12:04 AM
thanks guys.

prayas: i will be building the pilot, but not for this month's wip. maybe a future wip if he fits the bill..... he's going to be part of a school project that may or may not get to the animation stage...

wings3d! i can't say enough. it's a great (and totally FREE) modeling package! and it's only 1.2mb! :)

Mattman
08-27-2002, 04:41 AM

Mattman

still haven't started many tweaks. hopefully it'll be done on time.........

erilaz
09-03-2002, 09:48 AM
That's one purdy picture! :D
Really nice, solid, flyable look to this model! But it needs a certain something... hmmm... it looks a bit stagnant, too unfeeling. Is there anything you can add to it to make it feel homely and personal?

On a side note, everytime I come to your thread, the theme from batman keeps running through my head. Must be the whole rhyming with your name and all that. :hmm:

Mattman
09-03-2002, 03:04 PM
erilaz:

thanks for the crits, i'll tackle that today. did you have anything specific in mind that would help?

Aearon
09-03-2002, 03:22 PM
mh hard to see any faults, not much to crit really

the seat might be a bit undetailed, model some structure in there, you don't even see what it's made of atm. maybe you'll find this problem in other parts too, hard to say with this perspective and size

so my advice is...just go in and detail everything a little more if you still want to do something to it

but hey... it's already damn cool :D

otacon
09-04-2002, 12:52 AM
how did i miss this one. Looks awesome! Closeups would be good, and have you thought about putting in some colors? looks great though.

Baal
09-04-2002, 01:02 AM
Impressive, can't believe you did this with Wings 3D (I really don't get the way it works, I probably used Max too much now, I'm a desesperate case ;))! Great work so far, keep it up, the deadline is munchin' time!

Mattman
