To begin with decide what it is you want to achieve. Books (here (http://www.carlosbaena.com/books.html)) or online tutorials (here (http://www.carlosbaena.com/anim_material.html) & here (http://www.doronmeir.com/Articles.htm)& here (http://www.idleworm.com/how/index.shtml)) may help you start, but there's nothing better than sitting down and having a go!
Next, why not try downloading Plaastic Animation Papares [free} shareware trial / version. I wrote a review for it over at the 10 seconds club a couple of weeks back. (http://www.10secondclub.com - under review section) A great program with lots of potential.
OK. next you need some inspiration!! (this might do (http://artist.cgland.com/spiff73/bert.html) it's 3d but still applies!)
Now, how about rolling up your sleaves and doing a simple animation excersize or two?
- you could start with the classic bouncing ball - ( SEE LINK ABOVE I know, I know, you've heard it before... but it will help REALLY!)
or try something more advanced maybe a walk cycle (SEE ABOVE or here's agood place to look for expertise (http://www.freetoon.com/prestonblair/intro/frame.html))
So, let us know how you get on... it takes a lot of practise to get it right. Years really.
I think we all have loads of bad bad animation to get out of our
systems until something good eventually comes out. We all had to start somehere.
Best thing is to jump right in and post your work (WIP's) here at CGtalk for people to
see and comment on...we're here to help!
-Just keep going. keep learning!!
