View Full Version : Texturing
dangersnert 08-06-2002, 04:40 AM I was wondering if anyone knows of a good texturing tutorial for Maya 4. Or know how to texture a polygon character. I’ve tried the auto texture mapping and it always makes a whole bunch of pieces out of the model there has to be a better way. Like how do you go about painting textures for a face. I know you texture map and take into a paint program and paint it. But how do you get a nice clean texture map??

arent there uv mapping methods? you should be able to define a grooup and then create a uv map for it, planer or cylindrical work best for me.
sounds like you are creating a atlas type map, you may be able to create groups with in that type of mapping. i dont like it much though, best suiteed for very low poly models.

So would you pick the poly faces you want to map and use plainer map and then do the sides and back top bottom all seperate?
this UVmap settup is still the best I've ever seen on any figure.

The UV used flat mapping with unwrapped edges.
Software like UVMapperPro will do this automatically. http://www.uvmapper.com
