Beautiful start. Now you have me curious...What's your concept? Right now, it's looking a bit factory-made...but you may have some home-made ideas that have not been built yet. Keep us posted on your progress:beer:

the motor will get some damage and repair work done on it before its done. it is the most mechanized part in the design im working on, a personal flying machine.
Montparnasse
08-11-2002, 01:19 PM
...did you need to model that motor? Do you have a wireframe?
you make everything without any concepts or scribbles...?
Greetings
Montparnasse, who does not see the goal of that project at that early stage...
fellah
08-11-2002, 02:02 PM
wow, really great start! alot of work in there. that's really all I wanted to say, keep it up :)
tascitus
08-11-2002, 06:21 PM
Montparnasse: yes i modeled the motor. i scoured the net for small engines to see various motor layouts, the picked and pulled parts to build this one. the motor took me about 5 hours to model, so far.
fellah: thanks for the encouragement.:wavey:

i dinged up the components a bit, and spent way too long modelling the weld between the wing mounts and the motor body.
the wings are extremely rough, just wanted to give an idea of where its going.

very cool man, i love the flapping wing concept. It looks like it would really hurt you to wear it (but thats why we fly inside machines in the real world)
Are you going for a character too??
Any sketches???
Montparnasse
08-12-2002, 10:04 AM
...no the concept is clear, too.......WOW, like it...
And hey tascitus, dont get me wrong, because I really did never ever have any doubt about it, that you did the motor yourself...but on the wireframe I can see, how you made it (so fast) with booleans or not, where are more polys, where less ...things like that....
Because I always model Chars the whole year, I have absolutely no plan about modelling a thing like that...
So again, sorry for my asking about a wireframe, without mentionning the reason....
Greetings
Montparnasse
nice work:thumbsup: , keep going

rizob: yeah, i started work on the engine mount about 30 mins ago. i doubt i'll do much more on it at this time though, i want to get the pilot in there first.

did the arms but im not sure if im going to keep hem or rebuild them. im leaning towards rebuilding them. the forearms will be covered in long gloves so theyer not important, but im not fully satisfied with the upper arms either.
added the wings to give an idea of how its going to be.

Wow man. That is a killer creation. The Wing concept is very sleak. And the woman if she finishes off anything like she started. You should be doing good. How long you been doing 3d? I am still aiming for your level.. keep pushing so that us not as gifted have something to strive for.
Draxiv
08-26-2002, 11:30 AM
If you decide to redo the arms. I really think you should make them more muscular. Everything else makes her seem big and bad, her arms should show it too.

08-26-2002, 02:33 PM
Nice job on the modeling. I haven't checked every entry but so far you are the only other modeler that is using a strap-on wing harness.
Hasn't the challenge done a thumbnail page for easy browsing in the past?

Can u post a back view?
tascitus
08-27-2002, 12:19 AM
Dravix: those arms had to go. i had modeled those arms useing the available polys and edges from the torso and it caused me some problems. so today i built brand new arms as a completely independent model and grafted them into place.
DimitrisLiatsos: i'll get you a back view soon.
Cactus: thanks onec again.:)
Termlimit: ive been playing with 3d for about four years using the web and barnes and noble as my guide. i came upon this site one day and my jaw dropped  at the amount of raw talent that roams here. i thought i should stick around.

Looking great....still...hehe.
I've been wonderin' as I've watched this progress...
When you model characters, is it normal (for you...hehe),
to start at the feet and work your way up?
I usually go the other way...
So is there like some universal inspiration that caused you to go the route you did, or is it one of those things that...oh...just felt good at the time so you went with it?
:buttrock:
Cant wait to see the head!
:applause:
Keep tearin' it up!
tascitus
08-27-2002, 01:42 AM
i read once that a good way to ensure that you finish a character is to start with the less important areas and work "up" from there. the reasoning is, with characters, people tend to put the most care, and and time on the head to ensure that it captures the feel of the original concept, and once completed the rest of the character would get less attention and in some cases none at all. so i thought i would give this method a shot.

closing in on the end for the pilot model herself.
termlimit: she has short hair under her helm. her early trials of the wing rig ended in a painful lesson on why long hair and running motors should not be in close proximity.
