View Full Version : Character/Environment Demo Reel
Matabus 08-24-2004, 09:41 PM Please critique muh demo reel. I don't have one particular position I'm trying to land at any company, anything will do. I've included a variety of things on this reel. Let me know if this is a wise decision or not. Finally I've gotten my own domain, my demo reel at a stopping point, and my applications rolling out daily. I would really appreciate any advice you all could give me.
It's around 26MB and compressed with DivX:

For those who don't have DivX, here's an MPEG:

hey!!
looks quite cool.
the only things i can say are that some of the models seem to be software rendered. ( i could be wrong...) i've always been told to only ever show hardware rendered images. this way they get to see your skill at shadow baking/ texturing and how the model will look in-game. (dunno if that still applies to normal mapped models?)
also on one of the environment scenes the camera work looks a little erratic. Advice given to me was to keep camera work to the absolute minimum. remember, you aren't going for a job as a camera man.
also , perhaps the stills of the texture sheets should be full screen. ( not sure how that would look once compressed tho) just remember to include the original sheets if you are sending stuf out on cd.
well, i enjoyed looking at your reel. good luck in getting a job.
cheers!!

nice demoreel.
You need to figure out what position your applying for then put that material first. I would say by looking at this that your strong point is environments. I would put all that shit before anything then your models and textures second. I would probably hold the environment shots alittle longer too. did you shoot these environments off the unreal engine?
just make sure to specify what your applying for then put that stuff ahead of your other work.
good luck

Looks sexy to me. I like it a lot. Modeling and Environments are very strong, so I would def leave both, although I would probably agree with the order.(Environments, then modeling) Although, I don't have a job, so don't take me too seriously.
I would leave out "animation" in the title, though. Unless you plan on doing some cycles. At least a walk/run and idle which are the very basics of animation.
I can only dream of having your modeling skillz.
