Lukashi 08-06-2002, 01:08 AM  Ok my idea for this months challenge, so far is to have a fly thats dressed-up as a pimp :), this pimp-fly is going to be driving(flying) a fly-car that will look like a cross between a cadillac and a fly, im going to add a bunch of other flies, getting around by using their wings like the suckers they are. The characters are probably gonna have a cartoon type feel, anyways if anyone has any comments plz dont be shy. :D

If you're doing a pimp-fly, I'd better make sure not to dis those fly-girls!:p :D
Great (if not insanely weird) idea!
so far is to have a fly thats dressed-up as a pimp
I started doing a design for a poster of the very same thing when I was at college! A fly pimped up with a huge hat and cane, strutting down the street in a 70's blaxploitation style with the word "SuperFly" written across the top. I'll see if I can dig it up for you :D

08-06-2002, 04:11 PM
Hmm, while that sounds hilarious and a great idea for an image, not sure it goes with the challenge..but I'm sure you'll work it in somewhere..homemade bling-bling?
Lukashi
08-06-2002, 06:05 PM
yah im gonna make the caddy out of little stuff u find around the house, for example, the body of the car is gonna be a cigarrette box
hypercube
08-06-2002, 06:18 PM
Ah ok that makes perfect sense..I was actually thinking of making a plane out of a beer can for some roach racers/fighter pilots, but I think that's prolly too close to yours and zenzmurfy's..lotta bug power :)
Anyway look forward to seeing how this goes :D
Lukashi
08-07-2002, 08:09 PM

08-09-2002, 03:15 AM
Needs a really HUGE belt buckle, maybe with the words "Pretty Fly" across it.
Oh, and some really chunky rings!
Great work lukashi!:D
Lukashi
08-09-2002, 03:18 AM
Lol great idea ill go fix up the belt right now :)
Lukashi
08-09-2002, 03:22 AM
hehe check it out :)
MikaelPersson
08-09-2002, 10:56 AM
Where are the gold chains? Cigars? And the rings as mentioned.
I´ve always imagined them with white suits.
Nice progress.
Aearon
08-09-2002, 01:25 PM
hey looking great
i'd also prefer white clothes / black hat though, should look nice :)
on another note: the facets in the eyes don't look too good
you're using max to model right ? ;) try using a geosphere for the eyes and just scale it down on one axis, geospheres have triangular faces, should look more natural then the quads you have there
prayas
08-09-2002, 01:31 PM
lol puff "the fly" diddy?
He is really cool! Why you want white chlothes? He looks even more cool with this.
Wondering what his vehicle will be ?
Lukashi
08-09-2002, 02:58 PM
Mikael P. Ok ill add more gold and change him into white clothes thx for the input :)
Fist: I think the prob with the eyes ur mentioning is the bump map, maybe i need to rework it...
Prayas here is the vehicle in progress ( the main body is a cigarette box)
Lukashi
08-09-2002, 07:31 PM
and heres how it flies...
Lukashi
08-10-2002, 06:20 PM
hmmm i changed it a little bit, its still in concept stages, any input is very welcome :)
Lukashi
08-10-2002, 09:46 PM
starting to detail it in
MikaelPersson
08-10-2002, 11:53 PM
I really like your tiny flying machine. Hard to give any crit at this moment. You should probably model a cigarette logo on the box, to make it clear what it is.
Lukashi
08-11-2002, 03:27 AM
thanks micheal, heres some texturing :)

Cool. Lets replace those guys in the back with flies now.
Maybe you should have a heap of cow dung lying around somewhere?
erilaz
08-11-2002, 12:57 PM
Hey, I'm glad you put that buckle in!!:D
You need to ramp up some of those polys in the front. The circles have very noticable edges close up. Or are they supposed to have a cut-out look?
And maybe, just to save time on your part, render your results in scanline. At this stage brazil is probably unnecessary. Just a suggestion!:D
I'm really liking the originality of this piece. The cigarette box is a very cool idea!
Lukashi
08-11-2002, 03:16 PM
Mikael - Good idea with the cow dung, but the piece is gonna be flying once its done, i dont know if it would work, maybe just have some on the ground
Erilaz- Hmmm thx i never noticed how low poly it looks, but it looks ok from far away so i wont play with it for a little while, prob till the final render
Anyways today ill try to work on the ballon, rutter, speakers, and maybe even one of the girl flys
Lukashi
08-11-2002, 07:01 PM
alright rigging the fly

Will your fly-girls have spider-web fish net stockings?:D
For an interesting touch you could add a piece of sticky tape to make the windshield, and have mites or some other really small insects stuck against it, like flies squish against our windshields!
Coming along brilliantly Lukashi! (oh, and you probably should have a some blue in that flame of yours. Just a suggestion)
Lukashi
08-11-2002, 09:05 PM
Thanks Erilaz, Yah so far ive steched one fly girl thats going to have those string stalkings, (i think thats like what u mentioned) The tape is a great idea! Im going to add that in sometime soon thx :)
hypercube
08-11-2002, 09:11 PM
This is looking hilarious, really like it so far..
Main crits I can think of right now are the relative scales of the items involved though..I really like what pieces you're using, like the straws on the 'engine', tooth flosser, etc. but a lot of the pieces are odd, if that is a single pack of cigs, the lighter would be much bigger, the pencil to bottle cap ratio seems ok, but not to the pack..same thing for the flyswatters, they seem small next to the other items. Maybe if the body is cut out of and pieced together from a carton of cigs? ie mismatch the label pieces, etc.
just some thoughts..
Lukashi
08-11-2002, 09:15 PM
aaah ur right hyper cube!, hmm, ill think a way around it, in the meantime, need to make some flygirls
Lukashi
08-11-2002, 09:29 PM
Ok i decided who im going to model the girls after, If any of u have ever seen the show "Kids in the Hall" Then this will mean something to u, :scream: :p
If on the other hand uve never seen the show this wont mean much, anyways heres Jocelyn and Maudre
Lukashi
08-12-2002, 04:23 AM
well heres one of the fly girls, needs work i guess...
Lukashi
08-12-2002, 04:24 AM

AroundTheFur
08-12-2002, 01:40 PM
haha kids in the hall, 'females' The lighter is too small, along with the fly swatter and straws, but very original idea, im likin the idea the best so far so make it good!
Lukashi
08-14-2002, 12:09 AM
uuugh sorrry guys havent posted in a while, max corrupted my save files, got really angry at the program and im slowly converting to maya, if im quick enought ill try to finish the scene in maya, prob render it in max thought....well whatever ill convert quickly
Lukashi
08-14-2002, 12:17 AM
uuh right:rolleyes:
Lukashi
08-14-2002, 02:12 AM
if anyones knows how to open max stuff in maya, that would help too :)
erilaz
08-14-2002, 02:31 AM
AHAAHAHAAHHAAA! Opening max in maya. Oh my sides!:D
But seriously, I think the closest you've going to get from max to maya conversion (unless you export the meshes) is polytrans. And that costs big bikkies. Probably not worth the effort. I've been looking for a tool like that for about a year now, except to go the other way!! Frustration!!! :scream:
How did your files get corrupted? What is the error?
Oh, and great work on the fly-girls.
Lukashi
08-14-2002, 02:35 AM
heres the thing, i dont really care if i can edit them, i just want to see my models in maya, they can be all in .3ds or whatever i dont plan on editing them, just adding new stuff
The error was cannot open file: Filename.max, iono weird i think max just shut off randomly and then i tried to open the file and it said that,
its kinda ok since i have lots and lots of backups, but im trying to convert to maya anyways cause 3ds max bugginess annoys me :(
And finally thanks :)
erilaz
08-14-2002, 03:02 AM
Have you checked the space on your drives (especially your system drive) lately? If there isn't at least a few megs free (not sure of the size, probably 20-50 or so), you'll get that message. I had a similar problem, then I frred up my c: drive and sundries, and it opened no probs.
Can you open any of your files? If so you can just do a 3ds or obj export.
Other than than, polytrans or deep exploration!:D
I hope this helps!:wavey:
Lukashi
08-14-2002, 03:04 AM
hmm yah i can open all my max files except that one...so maya imports .obj eh, kew! thanks man
erilaz
08-14-2002, 03:21 AM
I'd hope that it does. It's the native export for maya!
My last suggestion is the autobak files in your max auto backup directory(Unless you turn it off, like I do!:D ), or try to MERGE the corrupt scene into a blank scene from assest browser. Both these have had some success!
Most likely though, if the others work then that file is screwed.
I'll stop bugging you with my helpful, if not hindering hints!:hmm:
Lukashi
08-14-2002, 03:23 AM
lol nah man tips are very appreciated =p, anyways ill try to rescue them like u said, and no it didnt make an autoback :(

08-23-2002, 06:37 AM
Very inventive. I can see the caption now: In a world where dragons inspired flight... The driver needs to have a flamethrower in the "head" that would be fun then he could strike fear into the hearts of those persons attached to the ground.
Lukashi
08-23-2002, 06:38 AM
Excelent idea Ingram, i was wondering how to make fire shoot out, i was going to make the dragon have a fire exhaust but it didnt fit or make sense, thats for the tip :)))
