View Full Version : Modelling a shape to follow the curve of a sphere - help!

Hey all,

I'm making a 3D logo, have imported the Splines from Illustrator. The tricky part is, I want to make the 2D spline follow the curve of a sphere. There are actually 3 separate shapes which will all combine to form the sphere and become animated to open up like an aperture lens or flower petals, etc.

Ive tried extruding the splines, then combining them as a boolean intersection with a sphere, but as I've discovered this results in a pretty messy model, with lots of holes that even the cap modifier cant fix. Any ideas 3DSMax gurus?

need more info, you want the edge of the object to match the edge of the sphere?

I had a similar problem (if you're only talking about mapping splines on spheres),

Maybe this will also help:
