So...another contest is on the rise....but schools coming up so i hope i can finish...anyway....I got an idea...but i dont have a scanner to show the sketch. So i sat down for an hour and modeled a start on the ship. Now it is homade....its just professionally homade:D . The pilot is a mercenary whos only belonging is his trusty aircraft... Actually im not sure if this fits the rule about being made from primitive things, but i will add to it. If its against any of the rules..please tell me....i dont want to have an illegal ship.:shame: Comments appreciated.

hmmmm...after reading what wiro said about the rules, i might have to re-think this one.:hmm:

I agree. not to offend, but a space ship would be a cop-out and not nearly as fun.:buttrock: Have fun with it. :D

Hmm, but a homemade spaceship could be cool..think Wings of Honneamise crossed with Explorers ;)

I'm sure you'll come up with something suitably cool..it's only the first hours of it anyway..roll wid it. :)

Maybe it could be homemade... if made at a space colony's junkyard, as long as you can have lots of oversized junk welded together.

Hmmmm. A little toooo manifactured! Rip it up a bit!:wip:

otacon
08-06-2002, 05:08 PM
I started working on some sort of propeller. I might just save the other ship for the wip section:shrug: Ill try making this one look more homade.;)

otacon
08-06-2002, 07:00 PM
A little more progress on the cockpit.:wip: Im always open for suggestions.:D

otacon

do you have a concept sketch? if so can you post it:D

otacon
08-06-2002, 08:44 PM
yea. but i dont have a scanner. And im no good at drawing on the computer, so theres really no way to show the sketches.

erilaz

You know ANYONE with a scanner, digital camera or anything? Wanna see sketches!!!:scream:

Great start otacon!

Elf

im with erilaz:sad:  i want to take a look at your sketches to see where your going with this

otacon
08-06-2002, 10:23 PM
A scanner is definitely on my wish list...unfortunately nobody i know (who lives close) has one:sad:.... But the aircraft is now starting to take shape.
btw thanks for the replies ...and i might try to draw the concept on the comp.:arteest: We'll see.;)

looks good so far... i think your first idea looked like a water bottle for hamsters. :p now that really would have been homemade! (especially if your character was a hamster!)

otacon
08-07-2002, 02:24 AM
I put a machine gun on this bandit...and did a few other things to it.:bounce:

I started on a pilot, and added some bolts (which im not sure about:curious: ) to the plane. I hope i can finish the pilot...i really struggle with modeling people:scream: . But im still thinking up some more details for the plane. Any suggestions?:lightbulb

Andrius
08-07-2002, 08:28 PM
your aircraft looks great:applause: , but still i'd like to crit you..
How will your aircraft land if its wheels are so near the body ... it will chop it's propelers off..:D

Koma
08-07-2002, 09:03 PM
nice ,i just think that the aircraft body are too smoth ,make more harder angle .

otacon
08-07-2002, 10:18 PM
Andrius: Thanks, i just noticed that too...ill have to make the rear wheels higher up.;)
Gabe: Ill make a harder angle.

Added a few things to the engine...not much, but its still an update.:D

otacon
08-09-2002, 09:42 PM
A few small additions.:wip:

robertp
08-09-2002, 10:08 PM
it is coming along nicely. I like how the engine is open to the air and the body of the plane looks like an old car. Great design keep it up.

Rob:D

otacon
08-10-2002, 12:12 AM
Thanks Rob.:) I couldnt resist doing a quick pose with the pilot in the ship, I wanted to see how he looked in it....Still have lots of detail to do though....:D

WiltedEnds

i like it so far..it reminds me of riding gocarts back in the day

otacon
08-11-2002, 12:47 AM
A few more additions, including a sky....:wip:

otacon
08-11-2002, 12:49 AM
another view...

dodo3d
08-11-2002, 12:57 AM
Cool

I think there is somthing wrong with the scale for the rider may be it's just my eye ,and the arm in the lift side of the plane how it's supose to left up???
u still have a great work keep going

otacon
08-11-2002, 01:41 AM
I was wondering the same thing about the size of the pilot, but i kind of like the look he has now...being scrunched up in his little plane. I wanted a little bit of cartoony look to it :) but I dont see what you mean about lifting up his arm... does he not have room or what?

hypercube
08-11-2002, 01:53 AM
Hey, this is looking really cool..rider seems reasonable size..maybe odd to have such a big prop on such a small engine? I like the sort of WWI style pic too..

I think he means the big lever/knob on the pilot's left..maybe that could be the thing that raises/lowers taller landing gear?

tascitus
08-11-2002, 01:55 AM
i like what you're doing here. i noticed that the props are so larg that they would be about half way into the ground on take off with the landing gear as is. or is the gear retracted somehow?

otacon
08-11-2002, 02:05 AM
Yea.....thats what that knobs for.......:D I tried making the landing gear longer, but it looked weird....so instead ill just have them lower down whenever he comes in for a landing.
Thanks for the comments!:)

Small additions....im running dry on ideas here......any suggestions?

Clanger
08-12-2002, 11:14 PM
Otacon, looking really nice.
If you want it to fly in the real world (I personaly don't think it's all that neccesary in this contest) the centre of gravity must be under the wings.
Rear engine jobs therefore tend to have their wings way back.

As I say I don't thing this matters too much here.

Plus having some sort of tail/rudder would make it more plane like.

otacon
08-12-2002, 11:24 PM
Cool. Thanks for the input. That sky was a test, but i dont think it looks right in the scene. Ill try putting on some kind of rutter.;)

otacon
08-13-2002, 03:31 AM
A few modifications......;) Comments anyone?:D

ahattemer
08-13-2002, 07:19 AM
hey thats great! you should see what it looks like two of those with big old homemade looking pontoons that are on seaplanes, just an idea, also maybe some kind of air intake for engine cooling, although the engine is pretty exposed now that i think about it.

Clanger
08-13-2002, 08:30 AM
Just thought, you could put some ailerons on those wings. You need some way of steering.

erilaz
08-13-2002, 09:35 AM
Lovely otacon. Now you need to ramp up those wheel polys!:D

Really great work.

otacon
08-15-2002, 01:23 AM
Thanks for the comments.;) Heres an update....

paconavarro
08-16-2002, 05:13 PM
I think you must add detail in the fusselage, put metal plates, bolts, little doors and things like that.....:wip:

otacon
08-17-2002, 04:27 AM
Ill start on that right away paconavarro. Heres a render i messed with a bit.....:D

Pilots view....

otacon
08-22-2002, 12:03 AM
I think im about done with this one. I might add a little more, but i dont know.....heres a render without the pilot so you can just see the plane.:D

dark_lotus
08-22-2002, 03:51 AM
The end opposite to the fan looks like it could use more detail. Coming along nicely though

otacon
08-28-2002, 12:47 AM
Sadly I must admit that im losing iterest in this challenge.:hmm: I like it a lot, but i dont really like spending a lot of time on one thing. But theres a few days left, so ill try to get up a good final image. heres a pic mainly for getting this thread pushed up(you gotta do what ya gotta do:p ) replies are still welcomed as i might change a few things before the final. Cheers :D
