question on unwrapping... other than Maxon Bodypaint, is there a program less expensive which will let me unwrap a model so it's ready for painting textures in photoshop ? does LW8 have better method for this and if it does can someone provide a good tutorial.. thx

Read the UVmapping tutorials in the Documentation LW8

All decent packages have UV toolsets, it's up to you to figure out how to use them properly ;)

So far the best UV toolset I've worked with is in XSI. It's subprojection tools are absolutely invaluable and it has all the functions you need to efficiently create and edit your maps for any purposes or painting habits. And right now, I would consider XSI to be a cheap solution ;)

LightWave's toolset is functional and pretty decent with the exception of the problems you encounter when unwrapping sub-d objects. Other than that, I don't have any problems with it.

Zbrush does some awesome unwrapping, unfortunately that means staying with Zbrush for texturing, though.

[OT] Leigh: You tried Zbrush yet?

Yup Nano, I've got ZB2 :) This has actually reminded me that I need to contact Pixologic so that I can get a new license key so that I can move ZB over to my newer workstation...

Actually zbrush maps can be painted in bodypaint pretty well too. But in photoshop forget it!
