hihihi :) thanks guys :) . Well as i use Lightwave, i just did that quickly. (5 minutes) using the subpatch method and tools like smoothshift, bevel, dragnet.

In fact, it will be a kinda big flying thing, and this part, is just the front of it. Eh guys its just the visible iceberg part for now ;)

more to come ;)

I´d say old plow seats, around 1940-50. Not bicycle.
But if you salvage an old jet engine, aren´t you allowed to use it? Hi-tech gear found out in the open should be allowed. Or?

Elf
08-06-2002, 06:15 PM
i agree mikael p. a jet engine found in a junkyard should be ok, a long as it seems a bit messed up

rolhionjs
08-07-2002, 01:19 PM
ok, so let's imagine we're in 3050 A.D., in a junky yard. Some people for some reasons, decide to make a craft to fight against some other people. They take all the thing they need to build it : Old engines, old helix, everything that can be able to build a craft. It's home made no ?

Sinon, deuxième question: OU EST CE QU ON VOIT LES GAGNANTS DES CHALLENGES PRECEDENTS ????????!!!!!!!!! Y A UN TOPIC ???

is it just me or does this have a slight resemblance to a X-wing?:p

MikaelPersson
08-07-2002, 08:59 PM
That will make a interesting ship. But I think you should be careful to not overcrowd it with detail. The scrap found in 3050 is hard for us 2000 people to read. We dont imediately see what it is. That is resulting in a confusing model.
You will have no problem handling that. But I do think you will have to consider it.

rolhionjs
08-07-2002, 09:37 PM

get rid of that sail on the top, didnt u ever take physics? and speaking of physics for some reason im having trouble believing this thing could get off the ground.....

Elf
08-07-2002, 10:53 PM
aroundthefur the entries dont have to be realistic, i personnaly like the sail, strike can add a really cool insignia to it:thumbsup:

rolhionjs
08-07-2002, 11:03 PM
euh aroundthefur.. do you think mary poppins could fly with an umbrellla ? ;)

Just to talk about this point, i would say : A homemade thing is often a stuff full of contradiction, in one word : rarely perfect. That's the point of the topic too no ? unperfect, old, used, and hand made.

OZ
08-07-2002, 11:26 PM
U got great style in rendering!! and a lot of artistic view!!!ROX!:buttrock:
i think that Mikael P. mean that too much detail may cause a confusion FX.and the shape of an object may be hidden .I agree this opinion ............however i think that ur object have loads of datails but not make confusion!iT LOOKS GREAT......:buttrock:

angel2k
08-08-2002, 06:54 AM

MikaelPersson
08-08-2002, 09:59 AM
Yes, OZ did get me correctly. I will try to explain in clearer words.

You have a clear idea in your mind about what each of the pieces are (in your ship). But as you have made a futuristic design, we who can´t read your mind, are having a harder time. You have to make it clear what each piece is. With a design that really communicates that.

:surprised ?? am I making myself clear? anyway. That old photo of yours did sure look nice.

cyroz2000
08-08-2002, 10:38 AM
Salut Strike,

:applause: DU GRAND ART! :applause:

rolhionjs
08-08-2002, 10:43 AM
well thanks all :)

MAybe you're right about the fact this thing is too detailed, or not really in the challenge topic... hmmm... i think i'll use it later for the final scene, but for now, let's start something different :

well i personally dont like the first one, but thats just me. i dont think home made means it has to have mistakes, i think it just needs to look 'put-together' by hand and not machine, which urs doesnt fit.

Wiro
08-08-2002, 02:30 PM
I aggree with Mikael P. about the crowdedness. The old design looked a bit too inconsistent and as he said I don't think people can relate to the parts used (except for the sails, propellers, etc).

But the second design now...wow nice render! This one is easier to relate to and already looks very interesting! I'd go for that one myself

Wiro

rolhionjs
08-08-2002, 02:36 PM
well... ok, i agree it's not so easy to relate some parts... So that's why i'm doing another model this time more "handmade" : a balloon, a boat, and some others stuffs not yet here.

But for then final scene, i think i'll use my first model. for example : the little boat beeing chase by the T-fighter, or this kinda thing ;)

thx for the comments.

I do think you'll need to attach the balloon better to the ship. I like the ropes idea though :D

Nice job on the modeling. I noticed someone had suggested huge sails on the ship. My thought is how about huge merchant ship sails on mastheads, like a ship from the 1700's? You could have a few layers of these sails, and still keep the form of the blimp.
Just my two cents.

Great work!

Hey, can you ramp up the polys in the rings at the front of the ship? A bit edgey there.

Again, really amazing work.

Montparnasse
08-11-2002, 12:43 PM
I think that it's exactly the girl at the front of the ship, that want not to suit well enough into that scene...it disturbs me much...

Wouldn't it be better to exchange that girl with a fantasy-figure, but - and that point I find really important - with a dangerous or strange look...

Because the pirate on that air-ship looks so angry, real bad and then that lovely, very fine girl from another World....no...

But these are just my two cents...

Greetings from Switzerland

Montparnasse : well maybe you're right about the figure. But in alot of ship, we find this kinda figure : a woman in front of boats. Maybe to not forget the sailors women, or something... Anyway i choose a woman to contrast with the tough guy the captain is. Maybe this is just for him a way to find some peace after fighting. Maybe just coz he likes women ? ;)

anyway, thx for the comments.

http://www.designpicture.com/images3Dversion/captainwire.jpg

Ok, here is the rower of the ship : let me introduce you Captain Corsum and his best sailor : Brasor.

yes he make 2 differents participations for this contest...
yes he make 2 characters for the second parcipation...

But that's not all ..

this crazy boy make an update of his website and a new logo too ..

Well, to answer about the "not much detailed" thing on my two guys, i just don't want to work alot on it coz after all, these characters are not the main thing in the challenge. So it was just for fun to modelise them, but i will not add more details for now. They're just here to be in the final ship, and to wear the inside of it. So maybe later i'll take them again to do something more detailed, but not for the challenge.

Since there's know one in the back working the rutter though, shouldn't the captain have some sort of wheel/stearing device? I also think you should have a lot more ropes and braces conecting the top sails to the boat, right now it looks like it would break pretty easy.

rolhionjs
08-17-2002, 01:07 PM
Uhm.... well... I don't like to justify about my job, and most of all about using an easy software to help about... about what exactly ?

I never used poser, except one time to try it, and to know what kinda of soft it was. I finally thought that creating his own character has more much fun than used an "already done" character, and most of all for a challenge... Maybe some people do it, but that's not my case. So here is the model i did to put on the boat, the woman :

http://www.designpicture.com/images3Dversion/cheveux2.jpg

and here the way i've done to modelise the hairs :

http://www.designpicture.com/images3Dversion/cheveux1.jpg

So do you think my pirate, or slave, or even the last i'm creating is poser too ?

08-17-2002, 06:42 PM
I've tried Poser as well, and I agree that creating your own characters is far more rewarding. Like I said, you have some amazing skills when it comes to modeling. It's just that the hair on the woman looked to me like one of the hair models that comes with Poser (I have a memory for little things like that). It'd be no big deal if you were using it as a placeholder until you got around to modeling it, as you obviously have the capability to model quality work, but it's apparent now that it is indeed your own work.

No offense intended, I just make it a point to call on things like this in case people are using work that isn't their own. All in all, I respect your work and I think that your pirate ship is definitely in the top 5 entries in this challenge. Keep up the great work.
Cheers!

Ok... Well i received some mails and here is a comment about the fact i used Poser for the woman in front of the ship... I tried to justify the fact i really modeled this woman by sending pic of it in wireframe, but no way...

So,... sorry to shock you all, but if nobody trust me, then i prefer to stop my challenge here, and then i think people will not treat me like a liar or this kind...

It's just too bad coz this challenge was great, and it wasn't over for myself... but sometimes, maybe it's better to do that for the peace of others...

dmcgrath
08-19-2002, 06:14 AM
I would not take it too personally. You did all you could by showing the wireframe of your model. If that isn't good enough for them. That is not your problem. I say keep working, you are a competent modeler. You have already proved yourself on other challenges here. Its one reason why everyone is looking at your models so carefully, they. As for the hair on your female model, perhaps some people dont realize that she is part of the boat, not a living person.

Good work, friend.

Don't stop, your work is amazing! If anyone is stupid enough to seriously look at all the models you've created for just this contest alone and think that you'd use a poser model, unless they're a moderator, let them fester in their own bitterness of denial and ignorance. It's one thing to question, to make sure things are kept legal in these contests, but you threw up your model showing people, now keep moving on, unless one of the moderators asks you more questions. I think all the models you've produced, especially with the wire model you posted is enough proof you wouldn't be using a poser model. hehe

Strike..................There will always be some kind of negativity from somewhere with whatever you do. You know what is and what is not, that's what is important. You do not have to explain your self. For God's sake even if it is a Poser model ( And I know it's not) who cares, it adds ambiance and a good look to your overall work, that's what really counts in the end. You have been putting up very nice work here for some time now, including this challenge. It would be a shame to quit now. You should just keep going and finish, it is quite an intricate piece of art thus far, and should get finished to show it off properly and give it it's just reward.

Just remember, there are always a few in the crowd that should be ignored, in this case as well, just finish and give your work the respect it deserves................I for one want a finished creation, so get to it................ :)

Hey Strike, is this a finished piece?
Because I think it's not as original as the other one. Are you gonna add this delta to the pirate bunch?
And I do think the delta flyer itself is far to small. I think a funtional delta should be 5 times as big to fly - not chras.
