Hi,

so I thought giving XSI a go, I am a animator and don't want to dig into deep XSI modelling/texturing etc etc, just want to get started with character animation. So question is: are there any "free" rigs/models available for download? (I did have a look at some of the prebuilt rigs in XSI last night but thought they where kind of "basic") have seen a few for other packages but no for XSI,

Cheers,

Hi Slugger,

try the fine site of Mr Harriss : http://www.edharriss.com/xsi/models/models.htm

HI there

If you look in the NetView
under model>digimation there are some meshes.
under model>get biped prop guide you can create your own rig proportions, then under model>create rig from biped guide it will generate the new rig to your proportions.

there is also a rigged model under model>get mocap rig, with some mocap under animate>mocap (not all work with that rig though)

have fun

Thanks c0ffee & Chinny

Ok, thanks for the advices, have checked some of it out, is there by chance anything similar to IK-Joe (3DSmax & Maya to?) available for XSI?

Ok,

I actually found a conversion of IK-Joe

Those rigs under netview are arcane and useless. Your best bet is generating a rig with biped guide at the moment.

I'll make my rig available soon , Just have to parent some geometry on it.

Generating Biped and Quadruped rigs - from the guides in netview, is the way to go. For IK joe type rigs check out this link http://www.rigging101.com/

Chinny , will softimage have a section (if you guys dont have one already) of downloadable free stuff for xsi , like rigs , textures , etc.

If yes , how do we submit stuff to that? I can put stuff on my website but it'll get limited exposure there. It would be great if we can submit things like free rigs to softimage and share it with the community.

There are two big places for free stuff.

1 XSINet http://www.softimage.com/xsinet/
2 XSIBase http://www.xsibase.com
http://www.xsibase.com/submit/plugin.php

if you look in the back of the netview in XSI under links
C:\Softimage\XSI_4.0\Data\NetView_Database\L04_body\content\link\default.htm

here you will find many places who host free stuff.

Most people host their own - but if they have permissions then they will host other peoples stuff.

Cheers ,

Hosting is not a problem at all , i'll just put it on my website and put a link here.

In fact if you go into rigs ( in that website) you can get an xsi version of IK JOE

I'm also converting the Packageman rig. It should be done by the end of this week. I've finaly finished all the facial stuff... it took a while to optimize it so you can still work with SubD's turned on. So now I'm finishing up the IK/FK stuff.

It will also be posted on rigging101, and I'll post a link directly here.

It's possible to do with Softimage|3D too, just takes a bit of creative use with expressions and shape animations :)
It's not that difficult to do actually, I might post a tutorial on it... "MIGHT" is a key word here. But the rig will be availble for download so that you can study it.

Thanks for the god work Stefan!

looking forward to the packageman XSI, I did try your IK Joe XSI rig, one thing with it though, the hands would not go into Fk mode arms did but not hands, maybe I am doing something wrong with it, I checked the slider and set it to 1 for FK, arms would be normal FK, but hands would still point towards the "IK-goal"???
