View Full Version : Male head w/ procedural skin
tibes 08-23-2004, 04:14 AM I've been working on this head in my spare time, over the past couple of weeks. Just wanted to get some 3rd party c&c. The skin shader is procedural... what do you guys think?
(should I stick to cartoon characters? :))

The shader is cool but I think you should mix it with some color and specular maps. Your skin shader works fine for a certain zone but not for the whole face, for example, if you look at someone's portrait you will see the skin has hue variations. Ears, nose tip, eyelids, lips and cheeks are allways reddish than forehead and chin. And we can allso see some oily zones or a different shape skin like lips more specular. Allso, I see your skin a bit "dead" I mean like if there was no blood inside the skin. I think you could fix that saturating the color on the shadows to emulate subsurface skattering. Making a good realistic skin shader is VERY difficult, you have to work it hard. Give it life. Good luck.

Some really nice work, REALLY like that procedural, but few small crits,
The texture is really nice but i think gets abit boring ALL over the model. Variation is definatly needed as in under the eye and no head is THAT bald.
Theres a starnge highlight above the eyeball and below the eyebrow. This kinda jumps out at me as wrong, i know what its ment to be but kinda looks wrong,
Finally the top of the jaw line kinda stick out abit, might just be me but i think maybe try dragging that inwards and that should hopefully help define the cheek bones abit more. Actually looking again its just between top the of the jaw line and the beginings out the cheek.
Part from that some awsome topology. Those wireframes are amazin and easily allow you to play around with it.
Hope it doesnt sound like i dont like your work coz i really Do ! Would love to see how this bad boy works out :p good luck :d
