View Full Version : Above & Beyond - Vehicle - zenzmurfy
zenzmurfy 08-05-2002, 09:36 PM Aw man... I watched G Gundam and missed my chance to be first here. :D
My concept for the flying machine will be an "AntZ" sized vehicle made of leaves, twigs, weeds, and seeds, piloted by a spider. I have a drawing in progress right now.

This spider is operating the rudder and the elevators(?) via the webbing to the rear. The plane can vary in power depending on how many flies the spider sticks on the wing.

Now that is a cool idea :applause:

Thanks Elf, PGp_Protector and Hypercube! I am very glad you enjoy the design! I plan to start work on it tonight and start posting updates here soon.
For most future concept art, I will be posting the drawings there. Like airplane variants and the character design. BTW: do you have a preference for a more realistic design or a cartoony design for the spider and insects? I am planning something cartoony, but the degree of humanizing is up in the air.

Another very cool idea! You rock at these challenges zenzmurfy!
Cartoony is always cool. Maybe you combine both... do realistic contraption, but a cartoony character.:D

Thanks Erilaz! :bounce:
These challenges are fun!
Thanks ArtOS! :bounce:
Guess I will have to be creative again. :D
Thanks HellRender :bounce:
Holy crap! you're right!!! I think I came up with my idea before I even got that far on the rules list! I guess I will have to come up with something else.
The funny thing is, any good airplane design would probably be aerodynamic and not slapped together. maybe my only choice would be some human powered flight design?

Looks like my spider plane is allowed! :applause:
Mycomputer was down for nearly a week, but I got a backup machine up and running so I am back to work on it.:bounce:

The coolest thing about the subject matter that I am drawing is that it can be easily draw at actual size! Here's a pic of the model with a new configuration of parts. I might model both :o)

Hey cool, glad you're rolling on it..I really like the alternate design, too  Am I right in guessing it flies the opposite direction? front canard?

Thanks Fist! :bounce: It's likely that most of the details in the end will be via bump maps.
Thanks Hypercube! :bounce: Good catch!
Yup! That wing in the front is a canard and the plane is facing the opposite direction from the drawing. The rear wings still face the same way. I hope i can simplify the design to steer only with airlerons, vs all the rudder/elevator stuff because its so hard to make that stuff seem strong enough with ordinary debris.
