Hi all!
im kinda new to these forums and relativly new to 3D computer arts, apart from a degree in multimedia in which we did some Max 5 work but not specifically. Now im finished i found this site! im completly inspired by the galleries ive seen and im looking to model a realistic female face like the ones posted. They are incredible, but im not sure how to go about this as ive tried box modelling but when i put a mesh smooth modifier to the mesh it seems to distort and when rendered it produces unwanted creases! im i doing something wrong? or is there a better way to model with splines or some other way?
I pointer in the right ditrection or some handy links would be great please.

keep up the top 3D work, its amazing what u all can do!!

Thanks

check out 3dtotal.com

there is a tutorial there about modelling joan of arc, should be a good start for you. It's just one of the many methods you could go about using to create model. I don't particularly think anyone would say there's one way to do it, try a few tutorials and see what works best for you.

I think I read somewhere that spline modeling is more detailed giving more realistic looks but it creates to many polys so its not used for games while box modeling is ideal for games because of the low poly count, I have only been at this for two weeks so I dont know how true this is (i have spline modeled a head, part of it anyways, and the curves and all look realistic). Also i think you would aslo have to find a material that looks like human flesh for that realistic look. If you want to model a head with splines I can atleast give you one tutorial : http://www.3dkingdom.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=90&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
