I am currently making a 3D Movie which has been in production for about 8 months now. I have started the set design and character design over the past 4 months or so. One of the big sets I need to create is a realistic/fantesy highway that I can do a chase in. This may seem a little silly to some but the characters in my movie are lego characters. I am part of a community at Brickfilms.com and would like to add a new twist on the Lego film world. The environment of my movie will be realistic up to a certain degree but not to the point of absolute realism. The concept might be a little weird but I think it looks right. Basically everything still has that lego "Square," shape but has a realistic twist a.k.a lights, full dashboards, realistic handles, tires, doors, windows, etc. I have only been into 3Dsmax since August of '03 so I am still very new, but I have some of the basic stuff down. Here is the highway that I have basically been tweaking and modifying over and over for the past 2 months.

Your Probably thinking, "How could it take so long to make something more simple," because alot of you are pro's compared to my status here but still. Im looking for some input on things to change. The textures are VERY bland and after Bumps and things like that they still seem to uniform and plain. I still want to keep that concrete look though. There are still things like road signs to put in but basically this is what the road will look like. Does anybody have any ideas? Ide appreciate any critisizm. Thanks Alot.

Hi kylepro88

It's not really a very inspiring pic, hence the lack of crits. It looks like a highway tho. if you were going to make it dramatic you might take a night shot, elevate the highway about a mile in the air looking down on the city, think drastic camera angles, lighting effects, contrast. It's possible to breath life into anything except your granny!

Maybe I should explain something. Im going for a specific look that isnt as real as your thinking I believe. Think of Lego, then think of Real. Then try and mix the two with a little more real than Lego. Its like 75% real, 25% Lego. I dont want all of the stuff that makes it "too" real looking. Just enough to give it a believeable type thing to it.

I had the exact same thought when I saw this.

Yea, I kinda realized this. I didnt really mean it to look exactly like it. I just used the idea of side concrete walls since I didnt want to spend a couple extra months creating a surrounding environment. Its the same reason they did it in the Matrix Reloaded. Its not exact though. Only the idea of outside walls and the conrete look makes it similair. But what highway isnt made of concrete, lol?
