Here's a character I'm just finishing up texturing, but Im not too happy with it. I'm going for a kind of cartoony, Final Fantasy look. I like it, but I feel like it's still too plain and uninteresting. I'm not sure what I could do to liven it up. I tried adding spots and patterns to the skin, but it looked too busy. Im gonna add some color variations to it's skin, add some hilites, maybe darken some shadows. I'll bake some bump details into it when I'm done. Wondering what suggestions you guys and gals might have. Thanks for any comments and feedback.

I think you should lose all those crazy spots because they make it annoying to look at, they make the stretching (of the texture) look more obvious in places, and you're losing some of the depth of your texture because of them. The eye texture, at the moment, looks the same as the skin, if you get me. Make it more specular, and you could do with making the under-belly texture more interesting.

To make it more stylised I think you should make the head smaller, legs thicker/beefier, move the body down (make the underbelly hang lower) and maybe make the wings a little bigger. Oh, and make the arms bigger, it might just be the pose but they make it look like an old man

Some more angles would be nice, and how about some wires?

Cool, thanks Oldbean. I'll play around with some of your suggestions. I see what you are saying, especially with the spots and eyes. As for the proportions, this is supposed to be a baby dragon, so I gave him a bigger head and eyes, and some awkward newborn proportions, like smaller wings (he can't fly yet), clumsy feet, and a stubby tail. I think the fatter belly is an idea worth trying though. Here's a few more screen grabs. BTW, it's 2550 polys, with an inner mouth and tongue. Thanks man!

No problem.

There's a few wasted polys on the toes, I think you should add some polys to the stomach too, 'cause it needs to be smoother, it's almost looks sharp at the moment.

Here's some of the problem areas for me

There's other places where you could get rid of a vert or two but the rest is OK.
