Just wanted to let everyone know that another semester is about to begin at http://www.eclecticacademy.com. I will be teaching Intro to 3D modeling again. The cost of the class is $20.00 and runs for 6 weeks. Each student will be able to download Cinmea 4D CE for free!! Also each student will be able to purchase Cinema 4D XL academic version for $295.00, if they want. Details will be given to students on request.

You can enroll now at http://www.eclecticacademy.com/newclasses.htm#3Dmodeling

Class will start Sept. 5, 2004.

Looks like it could be good, has anyone taken this class before, can anyone recommend it? Is $295 for an academic software version a good deal? I know XSI Foundation is $495 now, so it's getting hard to compare!

Rahul,

Yes it is the same class. It will be offered every term at the school. I enjoyed your work from the class. I am working on a level 2 class, and will let you know when it will be offered.

Just checked out the site, there are a few courses that look very interesting to me, Definitley looks like I will be checking these out.

Thanks for the link, I have been looking for a relatively cost effiicient program that gives a good overview of some of these programs.

Are these courses taught via any type of Flash presentation or BB style, etc...?

-Thanks!

The classes consit of 6 weekly lessons. The lessons are posted in HTML and PDF formats. I believe some classes offer some video but not sure. The students read and work the assignments each week. They post questions and homework assignments on the classroom message board.

Hi Randyrives,

The class sounds nice. I have a couple of questions. If you purchase the student version of XL, I'm guessing that would be version 8.5. Would we qualify for the free upgrade to version 9? Also, is the version 6 CE the one with the restricted rendering output size?

Thanks,

randyrives

You can order what ever version is shipping. I am not sure about a free upgrade, that will be up to Maxon. Basically, enrolling in the class makes you eligible to order the acdemic version.

Yes the CE version is limited to Render size of 600 x 400. This works well for the class, since we post our assingments. Of course doing a preview render to the screen and doing a screen capture will get you larger images.

If you are wanting to learn about 3D modeling, then this is a great chance without spending much money.

Is there an expiration date for purchasing the academic license. Also do you know if you can qualify for academic discounts for other modules not includeded witht the XL bundle i.e Sketch and Toon, Dynamics, BP2 ect? Thanks for the info. WIll be signing up

Hmmm i just might have to look into this, When is the last day i can pay? And will the CE version be good enough for this class?

Looks like a great deal for me, i am a hobbist 3dsmax user that never had any formal training in 3d or art so this might be a cool thing to do and i am sure i'll learn alot :)

I took this class last semester. I recomend it to anyone.

laiels - You have to order while in the 6 week class. I don't know about any other modules. Maxon has only said the XL Bundle. I can ask Maxon about the other modules. Since the class is a intro/modeling class, not sure the other modules will apply, as they are rendering/texturing and Dynamics (which is above intro level)

Lord Banshee - You pay when you sign up. I do know that last semester they took students after the class had started. Sept. 5 is when class starts, but you could join later most likely if need be. Yes CE is what the course is designed for, of course any version 6 or higher can be used. I had many students last semester use R8.5 without any trouble.

ambas - Thanks!

Do all the classes start Sept 5th as I opted for a different class than the 3dsMax course (for now, I will be getting to this one for sure). Just curious so I know basically. This looks like a good gig so I will be taking full advantage of it no doubt.

Just for anyone interested, I am sure the educational offer for C4D XL is open to other countries as well. I contacted Maxon UK shortly after joining the class and they told me that the offer is open for us in the UK as well. :bounce:

Just out of curiousity.... what happens if we are not readily available by the time classes start. I live in Florida, which if anyone has been watching the news as of late, is under the gun for it's second (at least category4 hurricane) in 30 days. There is a pretty good chance it will make landfall here Saturday making things a disaster here once again.

Here I am worried about making a web class with a distaster hurricane coming right at me, lol....in any event I just want to give a heads up in case things here are out of comission for a while after the storm rolls through. I am totally stoked for the classes, not the hurricane (again...sigh).

Thanks all!

Hi. I just enrolled. This is just what I've been looking for. And the price is great.

On the registration page, where it asks for login name and password, it didn't offer a field for password. Anyone else have this?

I'm also in FL, Orlando, not looking forward to this weekend. One hurricane was bad, 2 within 3 weeks though? Who did we make mad?

mrwilt - Thanks!

AbsolutionZero - Get out of there is the weather turns bad. We have people joining the class late 2 weeks after it starts. You don't have to be there when it starts, it is a work at your own pace class.

kj21 - Thanks! I will email your username and password sometime on Sat. Before class starts.

I just signed up for the class too. I am a new member to the forums but I have been reading the forums since June this year. I am fairly new to Animation and I think this is a nice first step to take. Thanks for the opportunity.

Thanks, being in Orlando, I also have a hurricane that wants to kill me for some reason, so I may be a little late.

I live in Belgium and would like to join the class. I have Visa but I can only pay in Euro's I think. Or is there another way?

randyrives
09-03-2004, 12:41 AM
ASteele85 - Thanks! The class doesn't really cover animation, but is focused on modeling.

kj21 - Keep safe!

Zito - I had students from all over the world last class. As far as payment goes, VISA, MasterCard or PayPal will work. Euro's will work, the exchange rate for Euros to US Dollars will apply.

"A registered version of Cinema 4D CE 6, a 3D modeling program, will be given to each student in the class"

Does this mean we would be able to use the program after we have completed the course?

cheers

Hmmm...I couldnt find a proper list of features.

This (http://www.computerarts.co.uk/news/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=18181&subsectionid=841&subsubsectionid=0) tells you a bit on CE. It's just Cinema 4D XL 6 with a render resolution limitation. (600 x 400). Although you can upgrade to CE+ for $99, which is the same as XL 6.

randyrives
09-03-2004, 03:04 PM
Not sure where to find a feature list now, as this version is an older version. Here is a quick list though:

Nurbs (limited)
Polygon Modeling w/subdivisions
Bones IK/FK
Particles
Deformers
Timeline (Animation)
Very fast Render
plus much more

Though it may not have the newest modeling features, it is a solid program, and great to learn to model with.

adb - Not sure if/when admin send out emails. If you don't have an e-mail by Sat. Night post here and I will check on it. I should get the class roll sometime Sat. And I will then e-mail everyone with their user name and password. Plus instructions on downloading the software if needed.

It looks like the enrollment link is still active. I would send someone at eclecticacademy.com an email. I would recommend the course.

After learning of the classes at Electric Academy http://www.eclecticacademy.com/ (http://www.eclecticacademy.com/) from this post in September I signed up for two classes, Golive and 3ds Max. Having just finished I thought I would post my experience. The Golive class proved very worthwhile. Weekly lessons were clear and the instructor responded quickly to my questions posted to the message board. I feel I learned a lot.

The Max class was a disappointment. First off there was no response from the instructor for a week and a half which we learned later was due to the hurricane in Florida. Understandable, however no explanation was posted by administration to the message board despite their knowledge of the situation so students were left hanging. The class was predicated on using an older version of Max which was supposed to be available as demo download from Discreet, however the link given was for it was for an upgrade only and so the program was unavailable. I had a demo for Max6 but as the instructor was using Max5 and did not know the Ver6 interface changes and so could not answer my interface questions. Knowing nothing of Max it was apparent that if I could not get the necessary feedback I could not use the lessons properly and so I informed the instructor that it would be best if I quit the class and tried a different class next term and she agreed saying said she would contact administration about this but nothing ever happened and she did not answer further messages. I then petitioned the administration directly for a credit to another class. My two emails were never answered and two phones calls to administration gave the message “the subscriber is out of the calling area”

I can make a qualified recommendation for Electric Academy in that a class may be good or it may present problems regarding availability of software. If you have trouble with a class, need feedback or information from administration, good luck.
