Hi Michael,

It would be great if you put up a small sample movie from each dvd so people know what to expect when they get it.

Hi,

this looks very interesting, but how is the quality, like the Gnomons, and how long are the whole workshops ?

The price looks ok, how much will be shipping for both DVDs to Germany ?

Michael,

The tiger scene file download can't be read by Maya 5 or 6. Several months back, I watched "The Last Samurai", I didn't think anything about the Tiger being CGed - I thought it was a Tom Cruise who was completely CGed. :)

I wanted also have a look at the File, but cant open with Maya 6 and cant convert it...have you made it with Maya 4.5.

Only one hour for a realistic tiger seems to be a bit short :)

I would be extremely wary about purchasing a dvd from you directly , and will wait
untill it is available on amazon. There are so many scams out there.

Blue Magic,

I hear you. I lost money on the Maya mental ray dvd here http://www.motiondesign.biz/. No response, the website hasn't changed for a while. I ordered it over a year ago. Ironically, if those dvds were to arrive now, I no longer need it, since I now understand mental ray much better.

Hey Thanks For the comments I will test out the scene file if it is corrupt I will replace it. The DVD are on the Beginner intermidiate side. The modeling DVD basically covers my technique for modeling and UV texture mapping it is a little short basically because I don't model the whole Tiger right in front of you I think that would put alot of poeple to sleep because it would be very repetative. I'm mainly trying to show you my technique, not so much do it for you. I definetly am not trying to rip anyone off if I was going to do that I would probably be charging more :) . JK. I never even heard of motiondesign so there is definetly no conspiracy or anything like that going on. Every one who has purched my DVD has had them shipped that day or the next.

Michael,

The tiger scene is fine now. I just test render it - it looks gorgeous and powerful, even with it unposed.

Yes it is true! I purchased these two DVDs and the arrived to my adress one week after, and i leave across the ocean!! The motiondesign guy has a lot to learn from you Michael!!

Not to be rude Mike, but I'd like to advertise to people here: Don't pre-order the MotionDesign.biz: Exploring Mental Ray DVD. It has been 11 months, with every excuse you can think of used, poor communication, and just plain bullshittery from Day One. A group of us in the Maya forum will be getting together and taking legal action soon enough.

Good work though Mike, you're adding some trust back into the educational DVD market. Hope it does well.

Couldnt have said it better... waiting for this and a quote for shipping cost to Quito - Ecuador in South America.

As an extra comment... the prices are on the spot!!! this is what is defenitely driving me to get one or both...

Hey man, I was also burned but MotionDesign...you mentioned that there was going to be legal action. How can I get on board with this. I wouldn't mind getting my cash back. Every e-mail I sent to that guy has never been answered so I'm assuming it was a scam... Please e-mail me at ... if there's anyway I can help or get involved...

Hi Michael, great news, I'm quite interested in the character rigging dvd. I have seen the sample movie of influences, looks good. Nice clear voice and nice video quality. Is the quality of the dvd even higher? (I mean higher res)

Do you deal with the topic of topology in your modeling dvd? What skill level do the dvd's require?
I'm glad you can buy it at Amazon.

Thanks for the nice words. The skill level of the DVD's is aimed more at a beginner intermidate level. I am working on a more advance DVD witch will go into the creation of a vissual effects sequence. I want to get into dynamics and Particles. Not sure if I am going to do this with Maya tough we'll see. The DVD's are available at Amazon but I am having alot of trouble with them processing orders it seems like they take several weeks to ship them. I am not sure why it is taking so long but I have caontacted them sevral times about it. I have to file a formal request for them to check it out kind of rediculous. I would not recomend buying from amazon right now until I get that worked out. you can buy them from Turbo Squid or from my site www.studiokirylo.com (http://www.studiokirylo.com) if you buy the bundle on my site I include the shipping at no extra charge. Thanks Again

Mike

I can't buy anything from your site. I can't tell by the lack of examples on your site, what the quality of your instructional tutorials are, so I can make a reasonable decision if I can even benifit from them.

Sample videos
Detailed bullet list of what aspects you cover
Screen shots from said videos
Gallery ( of your work). It's nice to see how advanced the teacher is.

Hey thanks for the sdvice. Yea I plan on posting some more examples soon. I am currently working here www.digitaldimension.com (http://www.digitaldimension.com) if you want to see what type of work that I do. I currently do not have an up to date portfolio but if you want to see some of my old work you can see it here www.michaelkirylo.com (http://www.michaelkirylo.com) . Thanks again for the advice I plan on revamping the site and adding more content once things slow down abit at work.

Cheers

Nice work. Really like the tiger work you've done. I would really like to see a bullet list of all the steps/principles you take your students through in your tutorials. And again, a short example of each would let us know how thoroughly you cover and explain things, as well as how easily we can see the screen you're working on. Many tuts have bad screen coverage, with little zoom-ins: "what did he just click on....wait, he skipped a step...he didn't explain that." Stuff like that.
