ohh i have fix that problem with now omega drivers with option (open gl for counter strike or something). All works fast and stabile. But with this option some new programs, games will have problems( i have test with new doom 3 and results are terrible). Do you have some other ways to fix that problems with open gl with Messiah?

You might not want to hear this, but I too was having problems using an ATI Radeon Pro. I tried almost every tip and suggestion that had been posted here and on the mailing list but messiah was still so problematic that I found myself not using it very much.

Just last week, I went out to Staples and saw that a decent nVidia GeForce card (128mb, FX series) was only $99. For some reason, I had assumed a new graphics card would set me back $300-400. I bought it, popped it in my PC and - bam! - problem completely solved.

Messiah, and all my other software, works just perfect now (and just as fast) and I only regret that I didn't get the GeForce card earlier.

I know it sucks to get a new PC with an ATI card and then be told to put another card in it, but it didn't cost too much and worked here.

GabrielW,

I also have Messiah Studio 2.0 with a Radeon 9700 pro and experienced the same problems you've mentioned with the latest Catalyst 4.8 drivers. The only thing I've found that works so far is to downgrade your ATI Drivers back to Catalyst version 4.2. Some of the buttons may appear "torn" at times, but at least you should be able to run Messiah at full speed. Hopefully they won't cause your system to crash as much as the 4.1 drivers did.

I sure wish the folks at pmG could test their software out on ATI cards before releasing it (hint, hint ;) ).

Considering that they release drivers that can break our software (as well as others), that's an unrealistic wish. It would be more realistic that they test with our software, considering that it is a popular app.

We'd be more than willing to work with them, but until someone there contacts us (or at least responds to our previous inquiries) I don't see any options other than using the drivers that work for you.

Lyle,

Better Yet why not just state that ATI Cards are not supported by Messiah.

We dont support or build them at our facility, nor do we recommend them in our Workstation solutions for customers.

If you have an ATi card, you could try the SoftFireGL driver hack supported by RivaTuner. I've heard that it works well with Maya, etc... so might be worth a try with Studio.

Lyle, I can see your point. I wouldn't expect any company to test their software on every video card out there on the market. One of the knocks the Mac world always levels at the PC world is that there are so many combinations of hardware configurations available in the PC environment that it's difficult to find a setup that is truly stable.

That being said, why is it all my other 3d applications (like Lightwave, ZBrush, etc.) have no problems running under the ATI drivers? Is pmG implementing certain graphical operations in non-standard ways that boost performance but aren't compatible with strict OpenGL commands? For example, even now, with the latest (version 4.8 Catalyst drivers, I can't read any text in any of the messiah interface's text fields).

ATI doesn't have the biggest share of the marketplace, but still a significant one. I came across this (http://steampowered.com/status/survey.html) website which posts a survey of machine configurations from a sample of 956,900 machines. ATI comes in second place to NVidia (well, I guess those are currently the only real choices for most PC users these days anyway).

I dont see his point.

I find it inexcusable that Messiah will not run correctly on more or less %50 of the market. All my other software including, LW, Silo, Wings3D, Houdini and XSI (learning editions), run absolutely flawlessly on my 9800pro...

This isnt a case of "Oh, theres a glitch with the latest drivers"... its a case of, "it dont work whatever drivers you got"...
It looks to me like its Messiah that is broken, or doing something bizarre with its UI code, not an ATI bug. Stop waiting around for ATI and just do it some other way, please!

Just think of every ATI user who downloads the Animate demo... are they going to consider buying an app that cant display its interface?

Lyle,

I've talked to my friend Wally Krier at ATI. He only has version 4 demo. ATI in all their glory won't fork out the money to buy him a copy. As soon as you post the Version 5 demo he can better help us out getting messiah to run flawlessy.

I have to say, without a doubt this 9800 Pro that I have runs faster then any card I've ever seen run in messiah. Version 4.3 of the Catalyst set are actually tested for 1.5X of Studio and 4.X of animate. Anyone running ATI Hardware should use those drivers with Messiah.

I'm wasn't going to throw this idea out, but I might as well now. What about D3D Rendering in Messiah? I know you would rather invest your time into other aspects of the program, but what do you think about it for later on down the line? Could someone with enough knowledge (like Chris Reid) take a crack at writing a D3D render for the viewport?

It was nice seeing you at Siggraph this year :-)

Crossbones: Messiah A. 5.0 demo out, I think is time to talk to your friend at ATI again ;)

Would be great a full working opengl drivers from ATI.
