Interesting stuff! You gotta love this guy. Each video is around 100 megs each, but they're long and detailed.

Wow, Carmack is crazy smart. And the fact that he's being realistic about what's to come makes it even cooler. The guy really understands the stubborness of the industry and he's willing to grab the reigns and take rendering in general in a new direction. To think, almost realtime Open GL accelerated rendering. No more 20hr render per frame. :D

peace,

MASTERS OF DOOM gives you some crazy insight into this guy's way of thinking and work ethic. I like the part where Romero and the guys would try to phaze him by turning up the volume on a porno and see how long it takes for him to even look away from the computer screen :)

Yeah, no eye-candy here, but the concepts on the new engine sound fascinating. I love what he says about not showing tech demos until his ideas are implemented fully.

I totally understand where he's coming from tho. We show stuff to production as proof of concepts and they're like, "That's it?". Totally kills the motivation.

The funny thing about when Carmack speaks is that if I'm not totally concentrating 100% to what he's saying, I lose him. I was trying to talk to friends on AIM while listening and found myself only catching random words and having none of it make sense. mmph.

Haha, it was actually quite meditating to hear him go on and on about all that stuff. Once you get him started on 3d engines the guy doesn't seem to shut up. Ubernerd nr.1 and probably the new messiah. Amen.

After a while i started thinking that it might not be him on the screen. Perhaps the video shows a cgi version of himself made with the new engine that will come. His voice is kind of monotone so i thought maybe the new engine generates audio based upon interactive input. Listening to his voice being all technical and lack of facial movements made me look for possible edgeloops on the geometry..is he real or cgi?..weird..i think im too tired.
