where can i find information on designing a relativly small maya vfx pipeline along with cg resource management solutions?

i'm interested in everything from file naming conventions, to maya standards, to suggested additional applications, etc.

it might be a big question and maybe even a little off topic so i really appreciate any help at all.

You mentioned applications, just thought I would throw this one out there - Real Flow. Check it out at www.next-limit.com (http://www.next-limit.com) It's designed for the simulation of fluids and has interparticle colisions. It was used for LOTR, and has full support for going between it and maya.
