View Full Version : "Create Face" tool, like 3DSMax
wedge 08-05-2002, 05:14 AM I'm building a head, and instead of box modeling i am doing it face by face, a lá THIS TUTORIAL (http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/head1.htm).
Is there a "Create Face" tool that can fill a space between two edges? This tutorial is for 3dsmax, I think. The "Create Face" is used HERE (http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/head4.asp) in the tutorial.

i think make polygon comes with the connect poly shape script.
and i dunno what append polygon is but it sounds like it could be helpfull. lol

Append to polygon tool does exactly that, check it out ...

mmm yes, this is my prefered technique. There is a "create polygon" tool and as Razvan said, the "append to polygon" tool.
Extruding edges can be useful too... esp for places like inside of the mouth and nostrils.
I recomend starting at the lips or eyes and radiating outwards.

Extruding edges is the method I prefer, I find it the most intuitive, but all of them work fine ...

i solved the problem with append to polygon... i couldn't use extrude edge, because when you merge the edges, they move together, and i didn't want any of my existing edges to move... i just wanted to fill a hole.
and yes, i started with the eyes, then did the outline of the lips, then build the cheeks in between and worked around.

if you wanna fill a hole, use 'create poly Tool' snap the poly to the geometry, then combine (check the normals!!) then use 'mergeEdgetool' or 'mergevertex' then they shouldnt collaps,.
a tip
make your own nice little markingMenu and add ToggleNormals On/Off to it,

you can snap the points and thus the shape won't change.
