View Full Version : battle for the one ring - gay marriage
hpslashluvr 08-19-2004, 03:43 AM Hi, this is for my AP art class. We have to do 12 pieces on one theme, I'm just leaving it broad for now. One or two of my pieces will be based on gay marriage.
Just a quick sketch spoofed off of LOTR with Bush as Gollum. I'm very bad at likenesses unfortunately. Hopefully you can get the point.
Please crit!!! I have only 2 weeks to finish each concentration piece. I am not familiar with digital drawing so forgive the crappiness. Used Photoshop. I'm going use Painter for the coloring.
What should I put in the background/foreground?
How can I make it look more like Bush and Gollum? And how to make the face more expressive...

tiny update, this really is a SPEEDsketch, I'm still deciding on what to do around the main figure, so please don't crit on anything but the idea and main figure.
I'm not trying to attack Bush in this piece except his stance on gay marriage.
What is happening is some people are standing on marriage licenses in the pit of fire in mount doom but of course the paper is burning up quickly as they stand on it. A few people are clinging to the ledge at the top, but a Barbie doll is blocking them from getting onto it, unless they grab onto her arm (symbolizing a regular marriage b/w a man and a woman).
I'm very bad at proportions, do these other two figures look all right? I am using them on the bottom.

doesn't work for me ... it's a nice symbolic touch but it doesn't strike instantly

hehe well, i think i'll worry about the symbolism later...but for now i might as well make an effort to finish it
this is my first real digital piece anyhow and first time with painter, i have only painted a few times in real life so my technique is not quite refined
please crit on lighting (there is a fire pit underneath him) and how to make him look more like bush, i'm very poor at likenesses
i also put up a lighting reference (I used the model I'm also working on now)
