Alias has posted something interesting including the shader below. Cheers,

Doesn't look like true SSS to me if you MUST have Caustics turned on, looks like a hack.

I think alias has been reading requests, and yet the diffusion shader seams easier to manage, this should satisfy those who felt it should of been there in the first place!

Here is another very cool SSS shader for maya, now compiled for OS X users as well.

Does anyone actually know of a pysically accurate sss shader? I certainly don't. And I don't think I'd like to wait for one to render either. There's no such thing as a "true" sss shader. Not unless you want to model every photon bouncing around inside the layers of your material.

Cpome on guys, this is CG! Everything we do is a hack!

If anyone would do it, it would be mental images. They seem to always find the most "physically accurate" way to do things.

Yeah, but now they're starting to go in the exact opposite direction :)

Physical accuracy is for physics geeks! Long-live the non-energy-conserving brdf!

You have to either have caustics or gi turned on so the shader can use photons.

Can anyone post a successful example of how this shader works? Im trying to understand the concept, you have to have raytracing, caustics, GI turned on in order for the light sorce to emit photons to the shader? would your setup have to be enclosed into a box or some sort of object to bounce light from? I hope I'm making sense! If not can someone explain how this works? Cheers

Yes this is great.

There is aktualy to materials on physical accurate and a fast one.
and looks like there is a few new prosedural textures to and some other stuff.

mentalray is flowing over with sss nodes theas days.

Can't wait to check this one out

Can anyone post a successful example of how this shader works? The package comes with maya scene examples and tutorials. (See "tutorials" directory"
One using misss_physical - using photons for more physically accurate approach,
the other using misss_fast*

Yea anyone else got either an example image or want to mirror the shader? It seems it is

no longer available.
