tomtm 08-18-2004, 02:48 AM Hi there,
Since I got Messiah 2.0 it's really fun to try character rigging.
But where can I get the basic understanding?
Recommended Books?
Recommended Online Tutorials?
Recommended other Recources?
Thanx for any help

And for other info about messiah, go to Zoogono:

I don’t know about rigging but you might not need to travel anywhere if Animation Mentor is everything it's hyped up to be. You’d just need broadband and free time.

Joe's tuts are very good. You will learn rigging and animation.

Maybe you should have a look at the messiah documentation. There are tutorials for the rigging of legs, arms, fingers, faces - basically all you need for a complete rig.

Or try to take a look at the rigging forum at cgtalk (http://www.cgtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54). Maybe there youfind what you need.

I recommend the Joe Cosman training CDs. I bought the rigging ones a couple of weeks ago and think they are excellent. Previously I have wasted a lot of time trying to learn rigging on my own or from tutorials downloaded here and there from the internet. I should have bought the CDs earlier. Joe has very elegant solutions that I would never have thought of myself.
Best regards

Hey, great gusy, thanx a lot for the input.
So I will check out what's the best for me.
But I always wanted to do a 3D school aswell, because it's very
inspiring to get some input from another person.
I started with 3d about 3.5 years ago and I made a lot f stuff, but
mostly static sets without the rigging and character animated stuff.
If someone knows a good one or heard from a excellent school who covers 1 or 2 month courses plese let me know.
Thank you
Tom

Here's a couple of links to more generic tutorials that I've found useful...

do you have to learn rigging with messiah animate?
i thought that "auto rig" did a great job on rigging for you...
are you looking into extending rigs for specific purposes?
i've just loaded a demo of messiah animate 4.0 and done the butch rig scene..was pretty painless in comparison to 3ds max bones and ik.
to learn to character animate is still relevent i think but rigging in messiah should be a breeze in comparison to lightwave/max

Hi guys,
Thanks a lot for all your input.
I ordered all CD's from Joe Cosman.....
I see, it's now on myself, but I really hope, to get in the word of rigging and
character animation.....

tomtm,
You will be very happy with Joe's tuts. You will learn lots and lots of stuff from setting up a basic rig and then adding to it for more and more complex rigs that are very easy to use. In his tuts he has two kinds of face setups. One using morphs and one using bones, Both are very good. Tons of stuff in those tuts and Joe explains the stuff real well.
