View Full Version : HDRI - IBL tutorials for Max
jinda2001 08-17-2004, 12:39 PM Hey All,
Does anyone know a posted tutorial for IBL (image based lighting) in MAX
I got the IBl from Paul Debevec's site but it is for a SGI workstation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search for "image based lighting" in the max forum. You'll find a tutorial by PixelMagic.

Thanks - but it appears that tutorial is based on a script that runs only on Max 4 or 5.
Its a bit frustrating as I have purchased Final Render which is a great product
provided that you want to stop working on anything but FR
because there are no tutorials to speak of and its a quite complicated.
Thanks for the tip though.

Do you want to use a low range (.bmp/...) or a high range image (.hdr/.exr)? Also, do you want to make multiple lights for lighting like in the tutorial?
In fR should be an option to add a map to a skylight. This should give the same (although somewhat slower) results, with either high or low range images.
And in the thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=140777) where the tutorial is posted they talk about another script (e-light (http://www.scriptspot.com/Main_Scripts.asp?Sort=Name&BrowseType=Search&SearchField=e-light)). It does the same, only it doesn't work with high range images. BTW, PixelMagic doesn't use a high range image in his tutorial, so in this case it doesn't matter which of the two scripts you use.
Hope this helps.
