Hey Everyone,

This is Conanator my ShadowRun, sci-fantasy inspired character. It's basically the bastard child of Conan, Commando, and Terminator. He is 3,515 tri's. This was a test for me do clothing, armor, and anatomy on one character. I need any suggestions on what else to do to make him better. I think I'm at the point where if I do too much more to his textures I'm going to overwork it and mess him up. So I think he is pretty much finished, I've got a few seams and stuff to clean up on him. So if you have any c & c I would appreciate it much.

Thanks

Maybe u should add some rust or bloodstain over the sword in order to make the model more believable.

It looks just about spot on to me, a very clean well proportioned model, with a detailed and profesional texture applied. The subject has lots of character that should make him very appealing.

imo. his head is too small and his waist is too narrow, his waist looks looks like he is wearing a corset, also i'd add a few poly's to the front of the boots too to round them up

other then that i think he looks cool

modeling crits - the handle on the sawed-off there is way too wide, and the boots are a bit on the square side. i like the detail that went into the characters abs/torso, you usually only see that in fighting games.

texturing crits - your back muscles are a bit off, especially along the spine and around the shoulder blades, double-check those. the sword may not need blood/rust, but it should probably be a tad darker, or closer to the rest of the palette you used. The character's texture are a tad low on the contrast side and a tad high on the saturation side, imo, but it'd fit pretty well into something like Gauntlet Legends or Brotherhood of Steel. Also, some shadows from the various belts and stuff would look nice.

design crits - i think you achieved your melding of conan/commando/terminator quite well. i don't know why you would want to mix those 3 characters, but thats up to you. that was your goal, and you definitely met it. be aware, though, that the final result of mixing 3 of the most cliche characters of all time is going to be a bit cliched! That said, it certainly hasn't stopped game designers in the past :P

nice work so far (given the design choices), but he could use some touchups!

The metal texture underneath his arm isn't really selling me as metal. It should be more chrome looking, pop the contrast on it. Also, you would do well to up the contrast on all his shading, in general.

Here I upped the skin contrast and made him a little darker, he has a lot more contrast and his muscles pop a lot more. His skin could be lightened more towards your original color, but right now he looks a bit more bodybuilder, IMHO.

Also I bluew the contrast on the metal to make it a little shinier and more metal-like. I also quickly sketched in an alternate suggestion for under the skin-more pistons and pipes ala terminator and less "metal squares" which looks a little too unorganic, IMHO. I also darked up the skin-metal seam a bit to add a bit more pop.

Finally, the arm-seam is very noticiable with the contrast change, and if you do up the contrast, I'd blend the seam a little better.

I've got a small PSD of the changes I made in case you wanted to check the curves adjustsments, etc.

Thx for the replies! You guys pretty much nailed it for me. I think that was my biggest problem learning photoshop is that my textures seemed to get washed out or get that painted look. Every time I thought I was pushing the contrast too much it seems you can go farther to get that popped out look like you said. I haven't messed with curves yet but I'm going to look into that right away. The few changes you made, really helps him stick out. The red tint really does give him a more natural look. Ghostscape thanks for taking time to make the psd.

I will fix the weapons as suggested. And i think I can spare adding some polys in his boots.
Again thanks all for the c & c. Bring em on.
