Brilliant Ryan, great thinking man. One thing I thought of is that usually a pole vaulter is going for a certain measure or height isnt he? Maybe this is just a practice session and he's not shooting for the medal yet, not sure. I love the idea, and will definitely keep an eye on this.

Are you going to use pre-rigged or create your own.

Great stuff man

Dustin

Thanks Erilaz and Bullseye...started blocking the main poses out in the run last night....should get some more work done tonight as well....I made the character about 2 years ago and I just rigged him up last night....made the field too...only about 10 min worth of modeling...nothing special......of course I probably won't render this out every preview but just to see what i'm using...here you go...:)

I saw an actual video that the track coach had of a pro pole vaulter going up, coming down, but instead of pushing his pole away it came forward and on his way down it caught him in the "family jewels" It was one of the most funny things i have ever seen. Seeing this guy flopping around on the mat holding himself. I really need to find that video.

hi there remi..
how are you rigging the pole? ne ideas?
im thinking of using just a latice deformer. ne better ways in maya?

peanuckle....I saw it too:) funny stuff but for some reason I could never bring myself to walk right after seeing it:)

the Rev. ....Still working on mine too...this isn't much but at least it's progress.

FromanylanD....Looking forward to seeing yours too Dylan:)

d_jnaneswar...Thanks for the vid bud....now I can't walk:) As for how i'm rigging the pole...i'm going to be using something call Shift Spline Transform in LW....in maya i'm not sure how i'd go about it....maybe just simple blendshapes...and if that didn't work...i'd have to really dive into it....maybe someone else has a good idea for rigging it in maya...i'm sure someone will help out:)

Here's what i've got so far...still rough...but coming along. I'm going for a Ren & Stimpy/Chuck Jones type of run.....kinda slo mo to speedier run....might need to speed it up a bit at the end...just a bit...but I think it'll help it....working on the spine and some wobble in the pole later....hope you like:)

looking good!

Great job on the hand movement! I'm having problems with the hands/pole flexibility myself.

I just wish real life would stop getting in the way of 3d! :)

hi there remi..

just seen your movie..

looks good.. may be a bit more lean towards the back to balance the pole would look good? also thought that for that run.. a backand forth movement of the head would look like he is putting in some effort and would emphasise the energie flow...

just my thoughts...

neways... just updated with some refinement.. check it out..

Hey Remi-

a couple of quick things - i like the happy go lucky skip, but i wonder if he shouldn't cover a little more distance between each step to make it seem like he has enough force to get lift- also, i'd throw a few more keys in his feet/legs to keep the motion stylized and funny- it's a pretty cute run/skip, and i'd play it up-

see http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/pole-vault3.htm

i think from 109-113 he needs to convincingly plant the pole with a bit of force - that would really sell the next part

i like the vault up and the hang time - some good timing here. where i lose it a little is from 145-155 when he starts to go forwards, but then goes back- i'd have him continue to move forwards a bit and the pole absorbs the weight - i know technically it's annoying and involves a crazy amount of keyframes, but it'll set up the gag better.

good stuff though - can't wait to see the reaction

Hey coop,

Thanks for having a look man...yea...I'm going to work on the pole slaming into the little deal...and i'll work on the part where he goes forward and then back...but what I was thinking..is his momentum would carry him forward a bit...then when the full weight is finally felt on the pole...it'd come back a bit....maybe it didn't work that way...i'll give it a go and see what I can do...thanks again for havin' a peek. Talk to you later:)

Ha, thats beautiful!! Keep up the great work.

Maybe have his back arch the other way (up away from the pole) at he tries to keep from getting hurt.
