Hi Everyone,

We are back with another session and this one will be fun :)

Also as you might have realized we now have a Animation Session subforum under the animation forum. now you can create your own threads and post your animation there.

Moving on:

This sessions theme is: Olympics Accidents (Summer and Winter olympics)

Rules:

- Have your character have a funny or realistic sports injury in one of the sports being played at the olympics right now. feel free to go crazy with the idea and do something creative. :)

- No Sound

- No Dynamics

- Location modelling should be kept to a bare minimum and be simple. As long as we recognize what sport it is , it is fine.

- Animations can be between 10 - 30 seconds.

- You can use pre-rigged characters

- Camera cuts are allowed

- No need for lighting/rendering. Playblasts are acceptable , the focus of this session is animation so do NOT hide the character by making a dark scene.

- This session starts August 16th and goes until September 15

- Please create a thread with your name and the animation session # and the sport name for entry. Ie: John Smith - Animation Session 9 - Swimming

- Animation done prior to this session is NOT acceptable. please create new animation for this session.

- WIP and Final animations should be 320 x 240 or 640 x 480 , using quicktime with sorenson 3 codec. Try not to use DIV-x since there is no way to scrub the animation and it makes giving critiques that much harder.

- You can post any questions you have about the session in this thread .

--

best of luck to everyone and looking forward to the animations.

please visit:

www.athens2004.com (http://www.athens2004.com/) to pick a sport you want to animate.

By the way , YOU CAN CHOOSE THE SAME SPORT SOMEONE ELSE IS DOING so dont feel like "aw shit pole vault is already taken" go ahead and do your own take on it.

Cheers ,
Ali

dont do any complex modelling , parented boxes are fine.

i am saying this cause there is just 2 weeks for this session and a large portion of it should be spent on animation.

looking forward to your entry!

Are we allowed to use dynamics, not for, something big like the character but for like say a weight falling off of a bar.

P.S. I understand if you don't wanna make any exceptions to the rule because it might lead to larger exceptions.

Can we use a scetch render?

No you cant.

I want to be able to clearly see the model , the focus is not rendering here. When the session is complete you can take your animation , render it with sketch , add dynamics , hair fur , 2 chickens and composite to live action if you want , but during the session the focus is animation and do NOT worry about anything else.

You can also pick and animate a Winter Olympics game , it doesnt have to be all summer.

Viva Athens :) a very nice Subject indeed!

Concerning dynamics....if someone animated a swimmer character....are they allowed?

can you elaborate? i am animating a swimmer most likely and i dont see where you'd need to use dynamics?

i think that by dynamics in a swimming animation maxFX means for the water. You're response about dynamics was a little unclear to me sorry, Its just that if ths focus is animation then dynamics should be allowed because they are a form of animation that would in this case make some beckground animation much easier. --Respectfully Padmus.

SheepFactory
08-17-2004, 05:57 PM
No they are not allowed , they are a form of animation not handled by character animators but TD's.

We are focusing on character animation here , you have 2 weeks , focus on your main character and acting rather than dynamics , background animation , toon shading ,etc.

After the session is done you can go ahead and add the dynamic elements and anything else you want but not during the session.

SheepFactory

yes , prerigged characters , free rigs , free models , etc are all fine and dandy. Infact its encouraged so you dont lose any time and start animating right away.

ok. I know it's cliche'd and all, but it seems like a good excuse for a little physical comedy.

I finished rigging a simple robot (http://coopdesign.org/client/atomicBot.jpg)guy and am sketching out some shots...

1) You can use the attachment function when posting the message , the image has to be smaller than 100k

2) no , we have barely enough time to finish one animation let alone two. trust me on that :)
