View Full Version : 3ds export problem?
Psionic Design 08-16-2004, 09:02 AM Hi there, I'm using 8.2 and since version 7 have been having problems with 3ds export, essentially all objects get renamed/re-jigged around. Not a problem when you only have to rename several objects but when you have scenes with 50-200 objects etc that have to have specific names it becomes a problem ;)
I do a fair bit of 3d games work and a while back I had to make a musical keyboard with keys numbered from 1-64 for example:- key 1, key 2, key 3 etc...so the programmer could move/highlight this key to show it was being pressed (educational prog)
but on export all the keys are re-named/re-jigged around so I had to manually go through and rename them all
What I was wondering was if this problem was fixed in 8.5/(9 beta's??) if somebody could do a quick test??
I emailed/spoke to maxon about it on many occasions but gave up in the end :(
Heres a simple example, the objects named object 1,2 and 3 and the exported 3ds opened up in unwrap 3d or any other program - all the names get messed up

Thanks for the reply, I emailed/and spoke to maxon in the past like I said but gave up in the end, with the 8.5/9 beta out I figured I'd ask people if c4d still had the same export problem
The other reason I wanted some kinda confirmation was I have a level/track design job coming up and there will be "lots" of objects that need specific names for in-game animation/collision/control/etc and at this point if they want any changes made to the tracks I have to go through and re-name everything again
Oh well, I guess I'll drop maxon another email, thanks again for your reply, much appreciated!!
