Hi!

I would like to know wich is the best codec and configuration to export a movie for DVD usage in Premiere.

And, wich is the best codec, compression/quality, to use for Quicktime movies made in Premiere and the best setup for it.

Thanks for all!! :)

For DVD:
option 1. Direct to MPEG-II
option 2. from uncompressed to MPEG-II
option 3. from DV to MPEG-II
Frst is the best option, because you only have to transcode once. But option 3 also gives great results and seems to be the (only) option if you need 16:9 in Encore.
Settings depend on your sourcematerial.

For Quicktime:
This also has been discussed before. My tip is to check movietrailers or other videos that you like qualitywise and use Ctrl+I (PC) or Apple+I (MAC) for more information about the codecs and settings.

Hi!

Thanks for replying.

You said that "settings depend on your sourcematerial". If I have an image sequence in JPG? Wich will be the best option (codec) and settings for it? And if my source is Quicktime MOV videos, wich will be?

What about Cleaner from Discreet and Sorenson?

Is Sorenson only for web usage or for general use? I mean, does it has a good compression with loss less and good quality?

Thanks again!

What I meant by that was that if your source is Progressive you probably want to export it Progressive and if it's Interlaced you export it interlaced. Unless you have a reason not to do that. But that's just what I do, I could be wrong :).

Quicktime movies with the sorenson (3) codec can be used for more than just webpages. It's actually the way arround. Quicktimes were and are still used for multimedia (director) presentations on CD-ROM. Because internetspeed for the average user has increased, watching video on the internet became possible for that average user. And because transcoding costs time (and thus money) people only transcoded it to one codec for internet and cd-rom usage. And that was often the Quicktime Sorenson3 codec.

Hi Shadow!

Where do I see if my source is progressive or interlaced?

In case of 3D rendered images, in your opinion, wich will be the best export option (codec and setup) to keep the best quality and the best compression?

What is the common option you use? I mean codec and configuration?

What is most used, AVI or MOV? I heard that George Lucas has an "law" that no one could export his movies else then Quicktime MOV format. Is it true? In this case, I guess Quicktime MOV has a very good quality. Am I wrong?

If I have many Quicktime MOV sources, compressed with various codecs and will build a new movie, how do I check if it's progressive or interlaced? And, wich will be the best export option, saving quality and best compression?

Hope to be not too redudant! :)

Thanks again!
