Hey guys. I hope I am posting this in the right thread. I am a college student. I've been in a computer graphics major for a year and a half. But I'm also taking a filmmaking class. So we decided to do a fight in the air similar to the one at the end of Matrix Revolutions.

Anyway, I just wanted to show you guys a teaser trailer and get some feedback. Maybe some advice on how to improve my effects shots, or perhaps improve the editing. Thanks alot. Props to AWB1989 for hosting...

VERY ORIGINAL
All I can say is keep it simple. So far it looks good but if your thinking of copying something that’s already done the excuse "This is a student work" doesn’t take you anywhere. Because any mistakes u make will be realized by the viewer instantaneously becuase they will compare with the original one and find mistakes in yours.

Thanks for the comments. And the music is 'Lacrimosa' from the Spiderman 2 trailer.

really nice. I think that some sort of sound effect when the two characters collide would add greatly to the piece. The keying looks good, did you shoot on DV? If you throw a nice sound effect into it please let me know. I'd like to see how it works out.

Thanks. Yeah, the footage is DV. It was shot on a Canon GL2 against a greenscreen. It was keyed with After Effects using Keylight. It came out fairly well.

its a good concept, but as a couple of personal notes...

it would be cool if the city was rendered. in my eyes what made the matrix scene like that so cool was when the glass shattered from the shockwave. that was what really gave it that big effect as opposed to the shockwave just being there in my eyes

and on another note, u might want to consider the rain

they are perfectly dry but its raining all around them, that doesnt work to well in my eyes ;)

Thanks for the comments. However, I should tell you that this trailer is really just a proof of concept. These scenes will not be in the final film. I just wanted to make sure I could do the effects before I took such an undertaking upon myself.

Nice...I really enjoyed watching it. But I think the main problem is, that the two actors don't look wet. Same problem with the buildings in the last shot. If you look at the original superbrawl in Revolutions, you can see that they created a hughe amout of digital water elements. Water running down the walls of the buildings, wave simulation on the street and - maybe the most important - a mixture of real and (often also pure) digital rain that is interacting with the actors (particle reflection on dummy models?).

And, of course, your shockwave doesn't have a heavy impact on anyone :-)
By the way: The real shockwave when Neo and Smith smash against each other (frontal top view) is basically the same fluid simulation like the "Nightflight" and the exploding skyscraper after the architect scene in Reloaded.

But: I really liked the sky, the flashes, the whole look & feel! Nice color correction!

Yeah, thanks for the comments. Yeah, like I said, this is just proof of concept. To make sure I could pull it off. The final film hasn't even been shot yet. We are going to film that in mid October. I will make a better shockwave, the actors will be wet, and so on.
