Okay... my first render with Messiah - full GI.

1) I'd like to animate his dreadlocks, giving them natural looking dynamics. In lightwave, I'd just weightmap the lot of them and apply some MD settings - how would I go about this in Messiah. I'm told its all about bone placement, but how do I do this without affecting his face and shoulders? I'd like them to collide naturally with his face and shoulders too.

2) Whats the best orientation for setting up characters for export to Messiah? Autorig seems to expect them to facing Z- from LW modeller, but all of the sample objects in the Messiah folder seem to be facing Z+... I think. I'm confused because a rig I set up is acting unpredictably.

Thanks in advance...

I'd spearate the object into sep object

hair.lwo
hat.lwo
head.lwo and then the body

I'd give the hair bone dynamics (or motion dynamics)
Bring a sphere sized to the head for the "collision" object for the bone dynamics.

You can parent bones from one bone effect to another or very easily use a moveto expression for onebobe set to follow the other.

If you don't have it fb_Bonechain (http://www.borderequals0.org/3ddev/fb_bonechain.cfm) is great when using motion dynamics for things like this.

Add the skeleton, then us fb_bonechain to create a chain of muscle bones. Then add the control nulls, not the muscle bones, as the springs to the motion dymanics effect. Works really well and takes a lot of the setup time out of the process.
