I am a seasoned MAX user, but I am now trying to learn Maya and I want to make a helix. It was a standard primitive object in MAX, but I don't see one in Maya. Anyone know the best way to accomplish this?

I tried to draw it with curve tools, but when I go to pull the vertices down to make it a 3 dimensional spiral, there is no way to make it a mathematically perfect spiral, and I need it to be perfect because I am then going to lathe it and it becomes very obvious that it is flawed when I lathe.

any help?

thanks, from an absolute beginner.

Andy :)

I'd try doing it with splines and making them solid. Like make the circle from the top view then pull one vertex down and the other up....hard to describe but hopefully u can imagine.

Or.
Bonus Tools > Create Spiral Curve

I think there are scripts too at Highend3D.
