View Full Version : HELP: Using Point Oven Lite...
jrsunshine 08-13-2004, 02:18 PM Greetings,
I am not very familiar with using MDD files in LW. After I bake an animation in Messiah using Point Oven Lite, What are ALL the steps I will need to make in LW to get the MDD to show up in Layout?
Thanks,

The lite version doesn't include the plugins for LW and Maya, so you can't test it out in LW.

The lite version doesn't include the plugins for LW and Maya, so you can't test it out in LW.I realize that, but you can still use the native MD plug-ins in Lightwave to load the MDD. It is with using those native LW plug-ins that I have no experience. I read a lot of threads in this forum which make reference to that fact but never exactly tell you the steps to do it. My original question pertained to using those native LW MDD plug-ins.
Thanks

Hi Jr,
1) Load your object into the scene.
2) Set deformation to LAST
3) Apply MD_Plug and assign the baked file.
4) Press Play.
It helps if the MDD file is in the project root, 'cos MDD doesn't like long filenames. The Pro version is much better than the MD_Plug, but MD_Plug does work.

Well i don't know if lw's mdd loader willuse Pointoven, I don't think so..have to check it.
The big reason to use pointOven lite is have a deform object so LW's motionblur can correctly render.
In messiah
1. select mesh
2. go to customize -> bake deformations to .mdd file
3.go to setup mode
switch off all effects (do not delete)
4. add pointoven reader as an effect
5. load mdd file
sidenote: save alternate scene file _append "po" to scene to help categorize files in pipeline.
