Ok here's the deal. My hard disk seems to have corrupted all my 3d models and textures that I have made over the last 2 years. I was using Windows XP with NTFS.

I had backed up all my work to a second hard disc so I could reinstall windows XP. Everything was fine untill I tried to access the folders where I keep my work. When I try to access these folders windows say "Access is denied". I tried pluging the disc into another computer but I got the same error. The folders are using up space on the disc but when I check the properties the system claims there is nothing there.

If any one knows a way to fix this please get in touch. It is really important to me to try and get my work back.

So as you may have guest I am quite pissed off at losing all that work. Guess I'll have to start over. :(

Please help me if you can!!!

Thanks

Greg

If the drives in NTFS you could use 'Restorer2000'

I haven't tried it myself but the standard version is free, so it's worth shot.

I have used 'EasyRecovery', can't remember which version it was, but it worked fine for a FAT32 drive.

Anyways.. Hope it works out.. and try not to hit the machine in your frustration, computers have feelings too don't you know!

what you can do to prevent this problem in the future is to turn off disk caching under policies for your hard drives (can be found in control panel -> system -> device manager). sorry for your loss :(

I lost my HD due to a virus attack last month, managed to recover everything on it with a utility called GetDataBack (http://www.runtime.org/) . The demo is free and you should be able to see whether it can recover your stuff with it. If so then the $120 for the app is well worth it. If this one doesn't work the do a google search for data recovery software and try them all until you find one that does the job.

good luck :)
