Hi everybody,

Maybe you've started laughing, while you were reading the Title:)
But the issue is, that i've to buy a laptop for study, and it will be a
pleasant thing, when i could do a bit 3dwork on 3dsmax (just a bit
of easy boxmodelling for training and so one).
I had already the opportunity to test it on a IBM X31 1,?MHz and
256MBRam! .......I've run 3dsmax with the software Drivers (direct x
caused a bluescreen and a restart!)...... and it works fine for my
needs, really!
But now i'am not shure if i want to buy a x40 rather than a x31.
But unfortunatly i've not the oppotunity to test 3dsmax on a x40.
But maybe someone of you had ever running 3dsmax or a other
3d softwarepackage on a IBM x40 (1,2GHz, 512MB Ram)

What is the graphics card? Typically those sub-notebooks use Intel Extreme 2 graphics which really really suck. If you can get by with the software mode then it won't matter but it will end up slow.

the x40 use the "Intel Extreme 2 graphics"

but the software mode should be ok for some small boxmodellingwork

there are a few more, but if youre going to spend $2000 on a laptop and you want to do Max, why not buy a laptop that can handle it?

the issue is that the use of a 3d-package on my future notebook will more be a "pleasure" then a must. More importent is the mobility, thats why i like to buy a 12" (max a 14"). I'm already happy with a system who can handle a "simple" boxmodelling-job like for example a head. Just for improving my skill in some boring lessons ;-)
And i now that a x31 can do it, more or less, but the x40......?
