Maya dissapears on mac OSX

If you mean that it renders fine, just that the render window, and the maya main window don't respond or refresh while it's working in the background, and while you're working on something else, then that's how it is on the PC too, just the way maya is i guess.

This may seem silly, but, have you tried waiting until it is done with the task (rendering)?

I've never seen maya windows dissapear completely on a pc.
The only thing showing up when I switch to maya on OSX is it's taskbar, which allows me to reach functions like end batch render or save file, but nothing happens.
Even after a render finished on it's own. It's very annoying
