http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-214-008&depa=0 <--- I'm looking into a USB memory key to replace my old one that fried out on me. But the only thing is, what kind of connector is that?? It uses a USB adapter, which I guess is okay for me, but what is the original connector for? Or more specifically, what does it connect to (what type of connection?)

I'm comparing different USB devices right now..... there's a post a few posts down that explains the situation so please feel free to read.

That's wierd... It looks just like a normal flash card connection. I'm guessing that without the USB adapter, you can just hook it up to a card reader if your PC has one.

hmm.. that's an interesting connector size. From the picture, it looks rather small. The smallest thing I have to read is a memory stick reader... but eh, it doesn't look like the right one. Smart media looks much wider than that and compact flash, just big in general.

The company makes flash cards, and the "dongle" to connect it to the usb port. I guess they figured that it would be easier to make one type of flash card, rather than have a second line at the factory mounting a different design into a solid plastic shell.

hhmm... i see i see. Well.... I'm looking to replace my USB memory key and I'm totally stuck between these two:

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-155-407&depa=0 - 512MB Sandisk Cruzer Titanium. Looks freaking gorgeous and has some wild specs that make it a winner for me in terms of design. I like the fact that it doesn't use a stupid cap to cover the USB connector but rather uses a retractable mechanism so it's sleek and clean....It's a little over $100. The only thing here is that I'm not sure how strong the retraction/extension mechanism is. I don't want this thing overtime to just lose it's ability to stay retracted and end up dangling all over the stupid place.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-155-406&depa=0 - 1GB Sandisk Cruzer Mini. This one looks great too, but it uses a cap to cover the USB connector. The whole thing is made of plastic. It loses out in terms of solidarity and design compared to the above model. But on a plus, a whole 1GB of space..... though I can't imagine ever using 1GB on a memory key... it was kind of hard to even use up my original 256. But mebbe, especially with all the anime I'm downloading lately, 1GB would be nice. But physical strength .... i definitely like the titanium. But in terms of the design of the USB connector mechanism, at least this one will never go weird. I'm not sure about the Titanium's retraction mechanism.... though it looks really damn innovative. This one is near $200.... pricey.

Anyone have any experience with either of the above? Which is the best bang for the buck? I'm sort of leaning toward the Titanium, but does anyone have any reason otherwise to go against the Titanium?

I don't have any experience with either one personally...but I still think I'd go with the smaller one. I think you'd have to wear down the retractable thing for the USB a hell of a lot to make it start to screw up. Unless you're sitting their flipping it back and forth when your fingers can't find anything else to do, I doubt you'd have to worry about it at all. And of course, if you get the smaller of the two, then in case something does happen to it (although pen drives seem very stable now), it wouldn't be as great of a loss.

But the second one probably is the best "bang for the buck," if you were to actually use the extra 512mb. I don't like the caps on the sandisk pen drives myself... They're lost too easily. That's one of the things I love about my 128mb memorex: The keychain hooks right on to the cap, so you never really have to worry about losing it. It's nice that the Sandisk drives come with extra caps, but still...

hah, cool cool. Yeah, I'm leaning much closer to the 512 for design. I definitely don't like caps either. Almost lost it a few times.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this one: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-155-410&depa=0. That one is definitely appealing in terms of price. It's far cheaper than the other two I was looking at and it also has the best cap design. I really don't like having caps on my keys but if I were to have one, this would definitely have to be it. Though it is made of plastic, the cap should hold relatively well on this. I liked my old GEIL key because it was all aluminum, which never warped or degraded in any way. But sadly, they don't manufacture memory keys anymore. But yeah, the other cool thing is that this 512MB micro key has an optional adapter casing that turns the key into an mp3 player... the crazy coolness if u ask me. But yeah.... I really like the idea of the platinum one still... hehehe. Ideas?
