View Full Version : VOLUMELIGHT reveals OPACITYMAPS?

I made a PLANE and added a PICTURE of leaf on it.Then I added OPACITYMAP for that leaf picture.

So everything worked fine,the plane disappeard and only the LEAF was visible..

But when I add VOLUMELIGHT into scene,the PLANE shows up again!!WHY??



I had same problem when using FOG in that same scene,but then the solve was turning that FOG into EXPONENTIAL mode(what ever that means?)

Can somebody help me with this?

Max has this limitation with opacity and fog/volume light.

If you really have to use leaves and fog, try model a simple leave as a workaround.

Exponential is a mathematical way of describing how fast the fog will appear. It's non-linear, so it will only show a small amount at the beginning but increase very fast at the end.

An example:
0-0-1-1-2-3-5-8-14-29-59-95

So if your leaves were at the "low" part of the fog, you wouldn't get the problem.

Actually you can use opacity maps and volume lights together if you use a blend material. The procedure is described in this thread:
